Red brick buildings with "cast stone" trim were hugely popular to build in the U.S. in the early 1920s, and here was one, pictured in 2025.
According to the building's Lowell Cultural Resources Inventory record (compiled circa 1980, at which time the building was occupied by the Ray Robinson Sandwich Shop), it was built in 1923 on a former railbed. According to G. Streetview, the sandwich shop was closed by 2016, and Fancy Nails opened circa 2017.
Also according to G. Streetview, the street signs (to the right of the Fancy Nails sign) had been crooked since circa 2018. "Is the government of the City of Lowell no longer capable of simple tasks of basic maintenance?!" I clucked.

I was told Boley and Featherston are the first names of the company's founders, Boley Lawley and Featherston Crooks. But the person who told me that might have been pulling my leg.

I love quiet evenings at the parking garages downtown.
Aye here's a picture of the parking garage when it opened in 1938, at which time it was named the Auto Hotel. The recessed interstitial areas were originally filled with glass block instead of windows and brown panels. Here's a construction pic too.
Its name ought to be changed back to Auto Hotel imo.

Look at those shingled canopy twins. Those aren't 1888.
With apologies to people named Lugar, I have always associated the name with hocking loogies. Sorry!
