Phibsboro’s SG305 prepares to depart Hazelhatch Station on new route L58 to River Forest.

The L58 was launched on November 28th 2021 as part of the BusConnects C-Spine.

Ringsend’s new PA269 prepares to operate a cross city service on Route 1 from Sandymount to Santry.

As part of the next phase of BusConnects, route 1 will be replaced in Sandymount with new routes C1 and C2 to Adamstown in the coming weeks.

Route 1 will run from Santry to the city centre until further BusConnects changes in north Dublin.

With H Spine now underway, C Spine is next on the Bus Connects list, with Lucan,Leixlip,Celbridge and Maynooth next, amist a lot of controversy and some opposition in those areas.

One route which wont survive is the 66A,.Dublin Bus (Phibsboro Depot) Volvo B9TL/Wrightbus SG158 is seen above at Captains Hill which has recently seen a lot of work. The 66A will be replaced by a peak hour route to the City Centre and a local route to Hazelhatch.

June 2021

Dublin Bus SG421 & GT28 operate the L58 and L54 on the first day of the new BusConnects C-Spine.

The 66A service in River Forest has now been replaced by new local routes L54, L58 and L59, and new express route X31.

VH1 prepares to depart on final route 25 from Dodsboro to Merrion Square.

A few hours later, this stop will be served by the new BusConnects routes L51 and L52 linking Dodsboro with Lucan Village and Adamstown rail station. A peak time X30 service will also to operate to UCD.

L54 is a totally new service, running from River Forest in Leixlip to Red Cow LUAS station, again bringing there into the network as well.

Operated by Conyingham Road, it brings them back to Leixlip and also adds a connection between Lucan and Clondalkin, long sought, Wright Streetdeck hybrid WH1 stands at River Forest. With their native 25s gone they Hybrids are expected to be largely deployed to the 26/L53,although their wandering further afield is also quite possible.

November 2021

Instant memories of the original 60 to Leas Cross, but this is the new 60 launched today Sunday 16th October 2022.

New route 60 from Grand Canal via City Centre to Red Cow on the Naas Road beside the LUAS interchange as part of BusConnects & also the launch of the G spine G1 & G2 routes.

Route 60 operates every 60 minutes by Dublin Bus Conyngham Road Garage, SG 431 seen above at Hanover Quay.

Although their are a few images here the C Spine will not be a regular feature on the stream, lnot going into detail but for a sizeable chunk of Lucan it has not been recieved favourably.

However their are some plus points and one is Hazelhatch finally joining the network, something long overdue as the terminus point for the L58 & L59. Both routes operate between here and River Forest in Leixlip, taking different routes in Leixlip and Celbridge.

Dublin Bus (Phibsboro Depot) ADL Enviro 400ER PA150 has just arrived at Hazelhatch to take up workings on the L59. With ADL single deckers on the way the time of deckers on the L58/L59 is likely to be limited.

Go-Ahead’s 11608 at the Newcastle terminus of new route W62.

Today, June 25th 2023, was the launch of Phase 5A of BusConnects Dublin. Three new routes have been introduced in west Dublin and Kildare - Route W4 between Tallaght and Blanchardstown, Route W61 between Maynooth and Hazelhatch, and route W62 between Newcastle and Tallaght. All three routes are operated by Go-Ahead Ireland.

July 2021

Go-Ahead Ireland 11582 is seen passing underneath the railway line in Kilbarrack as it nears the end of its journey on route 17A from the Blanchardstown Center.

This was the final day of route 17A. The roll-out of Bus Connects continues with the third phase on Sunday 29th May 2022. This sees new orbital routes N4 (Point Village to Blanchardstown Center via Finglas) and N6 (Kilbarrack to Finglas via Ballymun) replacing the 17A. This route started around 1975/1976 between Kilbarrack and Finglas. In 2010 Dublin Bus extended it to the Blanchardstown Center. Go-Ahead Ireland took over the route in December 2018. The N4 will be operated by Dublin Bus and the N6 by Go-Ahead Ireland.

Video recorded along the route, mostly on the last day and last week, can be found here: youtu.be/BdusSIJZE4U

Dublin Bus VG19 prepares to depart UCD Belfield on Route 41X to Knocksedan. Once a familiar sight around the city, the VGs are now mainly spotted operating peak time services from Harristown and Broadstone depots. Knocksedan in North Dublin has two services in each direction on route 41X Monday to Friday. Under BusConnects, this is planned to be enhanced to three peak services on new route X84 along with a 7 day services on new route L89 linking it to both Finglas and Airside.

New Route, new bus priority. Dublin Bus PA227 uses the new contra flow bus lane on Winetavern Street for BusConnects G-Spine. The G2 operates between Castleforbes Road and Liffey Valley.

June 27th 2021 sees Busconnects launch on the Howth Corridor, with the 31 service now becoming the H3, following the same route with the exeption of the extensions to Shielmartin (31A),now covered by Route 6.

Dublin Bus (Clontarf Depot) Volvo B5TL/Wrightbus SG363 pulls off from the Howth Summit terminus for Abbey Street. SG363 was a transfer in the last few days from Ringsend Depot.

June 2021

Dublin Bus AX639 operates a daytime service through Mount Merrion on Route 47. This routing is a variation of the main route 47 between Poolbeg Street and Belarmine, with daytime services diverted away from the N11 to serve Trees Road, North Avenue and Foster Avenue. This variant has filled gaps left from the removal of routes 5, 11A and 46B over the last two decades.

With the arrival of the new PA buses entering service, each new bus means another vehicle leaves the fleet. The ALX400 class has played a major part in transforming the Dublin Bus fleet since they arrived in 2000. These low-floor double deck buses meant routes across the capital could become wheelchair accessible and buggy friendly for parents. A total of 658 ALX400 buses entered service with Dublin Bus over a six year period (448 AV, 200 AX, 10 DT). As we post this photo, just over 20 AX buses remain in service.

Between BusConnects and a newly expanding hybrid fleet, the bus service in Dublin is changing rapidly.

Lucan Village has a much simplified service to the city centre, with the C3/C4 being the only links. Both now run to Ringsend Road and are solely operated by Ringsend, bringing an end to Phibsboro Depot operation in Lucan for the first time since 2000.

PA253 heads for Ringsend on the C4 which is the Celbridge service as PA253 heads for Maynooth. Both these services ran into problems later on with overcrowding but no doubt the issues wiill settle down in time.

November 2021

Go-Ahead's 11645, former Dublin Bus Conyngham Road based SG428, is seen about to depart for Heuston Station at Clontarf Station on the 29th September 2024.

Rounding out the updates,in order to accomidate Busconnects having an increased number of Green NTA liveried SG class vehicles,Clontarf took in a number of SGs from other garages.

SG347, seen here swinging onto Wendell Avenue operating Route 42 via Malahide to the city centre, moved from Conyingham Road with SG345, with EV59/60 moving the opposite direction.

June 2021

Clontarf Garage SG 368 basking in the spring sunshine at its route 29A terminus in Baldoyle village in the new TFI livery.

The new TFI livery wasto be launched on the new BusConnects Howth Road corridor in Spring 2021 with routes 29A, 31/A/B & 32 being upgraded to new Spine H from Howth, Baldoyle & Malahide to the City Centre, expected to launch later in the year.

SG 366 went into service in the new livery on route 31 on the 28th January 2021.

Second one completed at Clontarf SG 365 went into service on the 2nd February 2021.

Donnybrook SG 311, which was the first to be actually repainted from Dublin Bus to TFI livery remained in DBK off service finally entering service on the 4th Feb 2022 on route 54A.

Sharing the same day, Phibsboro's first painted SG 289 went into service on route 122, while Summerhill launched their first SG 333 on the 16 on Friday 5th Feb 2021.

Conyngham Road's inaugural was performed by their SG 345 on route 25B on 6th Feb 2021.

Harristown garage first trip was on 40D on 25th February 2021.

Finally, Broadstone garage entered SG 278 on 66x on 26th February 2020.

Busconnects launches on the last weekend of June 2021, with Dublin Bus Routes 29A,31,31A,31B and 32 trading up to H1,H2,H3,H9 and Route 6.

Dublin Bus (Clontarf Garage) Alexander Dennis Enviro 400/Volvo B9TL EV29 climbs up out of Howth Village on Route 31B to Abbey Street. The 31B will finish on June 25th, with Route 6 replacing it.

June 2021

Dublin Bus (Conyingham Road) Alexander Dennis/Enviro400MMCH AH1 lays over at River Forest operating Route L54 from Red Cow LUAS.

The Class-which is now free to wander freely throughout Conyingham Road's route system-may soon gain a new look. Conyingham Road is currently progressing through its 181/182 batch of SG's, with the 191 batch due to eventually be treated later in the year. The AH's fall into 191's but wherether they'll be done or not remains to be seen.

May 2022

Clontarf's SG366 is seen here on Talbot St. operating Route 29A from Baldoyle to Abbey Street. SG366 is the first SG painted into the new TFI livery in service. SG311 in Donnybrook was the first bus painted into these colours while it is appearing on brand new buses currently being delivered (hybrid/hydrogen powered) for entry into service shortly. The new livery matches the colours of new bus stops/branding being introduced ahead of the launch of BusConnects within the next few months

Busconnects first launch took place on June 27th 2021, with the H Spine launching on the services to Howth,Baldoyle and Malahide/Portmarnock. H9 will follow from the Howth Road.

Dublin Bus (Clontarf Depot) SG311 passes Baldoyle on the first H2 working (Formally Route 32) from Malahide while SG283 is in position to take up the second H1 working (formally Route 29A). Both have moved into Clontarf from Donnybrook (SG311) and Harristown (SG283).

June 2021

Dublin Bus AX 619 is seen passing DCU on Collins Avenue. It is doing driver route training for the new Bus Connects route N4 which starts on May 29th. 21/05/2022

Dublin Bus PA 147 is seen at the C1 terminus in Sandymount with a short working to Aston Quay. 20/05/2023

The first phase of BusConnects has been launched with the H-spine along the Howth Road. The 29A, 32 and 31 (& 31A/31B) become the H1, H2 and H3. Additional peak-time H9 provides extra capacity in the morning and radial route 6 provides a once an hour replacement for the 31A/31B oddities.

Clontarf received a number of reliveried SGs from other garages for the launch. Two of those are noted at the Baldoyle "Coast Road" terminus of the H1, formerly the 29A. SG311 (new to Donnybrook) leaves on the 16.01 H1 to Abbey Street Lower whilst SG287 (new to Harristown) waits to operate the 16.16 departure.

Both feature ads part of an extensive publicity campaign for the new service which adds earlier and later departures, an increased frequency and a more evenly space service along the core spine.

Baldoyle - 10.07.2021

A new path at Howth, especially for route 31, from last Sunday 27th June 2021 the route was rebranded as H3 as part of the BusConnects project in Dublin.

Clontarf Garage Enviro400 EV 76 rests at its terminus at Howth Summit, which is a very popular starting point for tourists visiting the various cliffs & paths around Howth Summit.

Although GT's are not unusual on the C Spine routes,GT159 is the exepction to the rule. While it strayed sometimes pre C-Spine, since then it has largely been confined to the 9,38 or 39.

However February 2022 saw it appear for a lap on the C2 and is sent above leaving Foxborough for Sandymount. Its debateable how much longer she will keep the AOA as Phibsboro seem to be powering through the batch for repainting although evidence of work to the AOA being tidied up was noticeable.

February 2022

Not of the usual standard, but be that as it may.....

Nearly 2 months have passed and the changes the C-Spine still seem to be having growing pains. The L54 & L58 seem above have had mixed loadings but given the COVID situation thats to be expected.

Conyingham Road's SG448 has just arrived from Red Cow Luas on the L54 while SG423 lays over on the L58. SG's are not the predomiant species on either routes.L54 can operate with anything in Conyingham Road except weekends while the L58 has a similar setup, sans VT's,at Phibsboro. Not for much more mind you.

Hoping to return to regular updates on the stream in the latter end of February, until then it'll just be drips now and again.

June 26th 2021 saw the end of several routes in North Dublin as their long known, with the implimentation of Busconnects resulting in a change of numbers.

Dublin Bus (Clontarf Depot) Enviro 400/Volco B9TL EV16 heads down Carrickbrack Road heading for Shielmartin on the final working of Route 31A.This route has now been somewhat subsumed at this end into Route 6.

June 2021

Conyngham Road's SG458 is seen operating the 2nd departure of the S2 from Heuston Station on the 26th November 2023.

For more photos of Phase 5b of Bus Connects, see here: dublinbusstuff.com/PhotoWeek/SRoutes.html

In less then desirable light the last new route of the H-Spine to launch did so on June 28th, with Route H9 launching from Stop 604 on the Howth Road (All Saints Road Junction or Ennafort Road, whatever way you want to look at it).

Although Clontarf launched the route with SG283,intrestingly Broadstone Garage operate the other 2 morning departures. Their Volvo B5TL/Wrightbus SG273 pulls into Stop 604.

June 2021

Dublin Bus SG 366, the first of its class in traffic with the new Transport for Ireland green/ yellow livery, seen above at Howth Summit, terminus for route 31.

The new TFI livery will be launched on the new BusConnects Howth Road corridor in Spring 2021 with routes 29A, 31/A/B & 32 being upgraded to new Spine H from Howth, Baldoyle & Malahide to the City Centre.

Ringsend's inaugural was performed by their SG 355 on route 1 on the 8th Feb 2021.

Harristown garage first trip was on 40D on 25th February 2021.

Finally, Broadstone garage entered SG 278 on 66x on 26th February 2020.

SG166, on an early morning peak working of route 142 from Portmarnock, arrives into UCD Belfield, pictured on Wynnsward Drive.

This section of the campus will be served by new BusConnects route S4 which will replace the 142 between Darty and UCD.

Dublin Bus (Broadstone Depot) Volvo B9TL/Wright Gemini VG6 passes through Leixlip on a euro working of Route 66b to Castletown in Leixlip.

Busconnects will sweep the route and its direct city centre connection away in October in favour of what is esentially a "railink" route, the L58 from Hazelhatch to Leixlip Confey. Who will run it is anyone's guess, indications seem to suggest Conyingham Road will operate the route.

June 2021

No more 40 on the Southside of Dublin, so taking pictures of these routes for memory

Dublin Bus SG129 operates the 29A through Raheny. It’s the final few weeks for this route as the countdown to launch BusConnects gets closer. The 29A will become route H1 between Clongriffin and Abbey Street.

Late June 2023 saw the latest phase of busconnects kick in for Dublin, with W4,W61 and W62 all launching operated by Go Ahead Ireland.

W4-Blanchardstown FC-Liffey Valley N4-Ballyowen-Grange Castl-Citywest-Tallaght

W61-Maynooth-Celbridge-Hazelhatch

W62-Newcastle-Saggart-Citywest-Tallaght

The eventual plan is to join up W61 and W62,once a new bridge at the canal in Hazelhatch is put in,the 2 route becoming W6. However this is a long way off.

11519 pulls in at Tallaght to operate a W4 while 11507 lays over on the W62

June 2023

Dublin Bus GT44 departs an evening service on route 142 from UCD Belfield to Portmarnock.

When this photo was taken, the route was running a reduced pandemic service. Despite most routes returning to a pre-Covid level, the 142 is still missing the daytime service between Portobello and UCD which was used prior to the pandemic. (Edit: The Portobello service has since been announced to start from September 27th)

This bus stop and section of route between UCD and Dartry will be used by new orbital route S4 under BusConnects with a proposed frequency of up to every 10 minutes when it launches in Q3/2022.

To round out the H Spine photos and avoid boring people, this is the last image to go up. The routes have had a strong following from other enthusiasts and excellent observations and photos can be found online of the launch.

Route 6 has replaced Route 31B and 31A along Shielmartin and the Summit. However the route now goes down Watermill Road and James Larkin Road, bringing a regular service back service to Watermill Road.

Dublin Bus (Clontarf Depot) Volvo B5TL/Wrightbus SG316,recently transferred from Donnybrook Depot, has just swung onto James Larkin Road headed for Howth with the Poolbeg chimneys in the backround.

June 2021

Here is Dublin Bus Volvo B9TL / Enviro400 EV77 seen climbing Howth Village Hill heading up to the Summit operating the former route 31, at the time this photo was taken, the following week the BusConnects H-Spine would have released and the route now operates as Route H3 and allocated SG class vehicles in the new TFI Livery. 6/14/2021
