Burst pipe, Congress St. Boston.

got stuck in yesterday due to a burst water pipe and waiting for the plumber ,so this is my only shot ,i like the definition this 50d gives though

This is really rather pretty, though it might not be what you expect. It's not a water feature, and it's not in a pond.

Nope, this is one of the yards in work, and that water is coming from a place where there are no holes.

Given the pressure required to break through tarmac, I can only assume that we've burst a water main. God only knows how much water we're losing underground.

Let's hope a repair can be made easily! The miracle is that it's been like that for at least an hour and so far none of the kids have asked me if they're going to be sent home!

A water pipe burst, covering the surrounding vegetation. The temperatures were below 20F/-6C, so all was frozen. When I found what had happened, the sun was out and 55F/13C, so was melting. After shutting off water, I quickly shot these before repairing pipe. These were shot w/Canon 7D & EF Macro 100mm 2.8 L IS USM lens. Water pipes in the ceiling had frozen then burst and the whole of the friendship Cafe had basically flooded. This photo was taken after four hours of mopping, and clearly it was going nowhere. I didn't see it when Imran first got there, but apparently it was like hose pipes just spewing out water from the ceiling.

On the bright side, I now know where to hire dehumidifiers.

Luckily, my son was in when this pipe popped. He heard it twanging, and then the pop. Think he used every towel in the house, whilst trying to find the stopcock !

He did a good job though, and used his mechanic skills to replace the pipe for me.

The huge pile of towels are in the background !

Caught on the way to work. A water pipe had burst under the road. The van went round the corner, the road collapsed and the van sank into the road!

This series of shots is the result of my discovering a burst pipe about 10 a.m. So, I stopped the leak, shot these quickly before it all melted (75F days, 20F nights). These are mostly long pieces of dead grass entombed in ice. As the ice was melting, it began creating the tiny lines you see, which are actually channels of water. Here they cause the ice to take on a pattern similar to that of an alligator, or crocodile.

How to Fix Water Damaged Walls?

It doesn't matter if your house is old or new, you're bound to face water damage at some point in your life. If you've already experienced a water leak in the past, there is a high chance you'll experience it in the future as well.

Friday afternoon and nothing too exciting is happening when the phone rings. "Didn't expect you to be there" said a friend "Why aren't you down at the West Highland Way at the Landslide?"

"The what?" I ask.

"The Landslide someones trapped. The Rescue tender has gone out from Stirling and we are at Stirling on Standby".

"Right well I had better see what's happened"

So slightly apprehensively I tell folk in the office what I have heard grab my hi-vis, hard hat and stick on my steel toed boots and head out to Killearn.

Never had this happen on one of our paths before and I wonder what I will find. The possibility of a wind up crosses my mind, but as I near the West Highland Way I spot walkers on the road and not the path. You can spot a West Highland Way walker easily. They are the ones with big bags on their backs! Looks like it is true. I pull in where the Way crosses the main road and the above picture meets me. Yep something happening here, but no emergency staff or vehicles so after a quick update call to the office I hit the road again and head to the next entry point.

Glancing at the Way which is visible from the road nothing is obvious. As I turn onto Killearn Station Road I find the people and the vehicles Water Board and fire engine. I put the light bar on and join the car park. Then I realise that there are no police, no rescue vehicles infact not what you would expect for persons trapped. I turn the light bar off.

I speak to a passing fire fighter and discover that the water board folk are up the path and that no one is hurt or trapped. What a relief.

Heading along the track I meet the local Water Board folk I know and discover that the Way hasn't avalanched and no one has been trapped. What has happened is that the rain combined with a stream has caused a small landslip on the side of the West Highland Way where the pipeline runs from Loch Katrine to Glasgow and this has caused a stop valve to break and send an impressive fountain of water into the air.

Now with the neighbouring stop taps turned off, there is no damage to the Way and we can reopen it. Oh and tell the office and my "friend" what is actually happening! Much relief all round. Now all we need to do is get the path closed to allow the Water Board to repair the pipe (see pic). Four days later and you would never know it had happened!

These guys seemed happy for a brief break from repairing the burst pipe in Robert and Elise's street to pose for a New Year's Even picture.

I was only supposed to blow the bloody taps off....

The kids were thrilled to wake up to see the road bubbling water everywhere. It was coming up most obviously outside our house (this was taken from the window) but I'm told there were lots on little leaks coming up right to the top of the road (about 350ms along!)

By the time I was back from taking them to school it had washed a huge amount of muck up to the front door. Shortly after that it was replaced with a large hole. (and the water went off)

They were a bit disappointing it wasn't still available for some welly-jumpin' action when they got home.

Here in Puget Sound region of Washington State, we do get snow occasionally. We rarely get more than a couple of inches at a time and rarely does it last more than a couple days.

The week of January 16-20, 2012 brought a once in a decade winter storm. After 8-12 inches of snow the freezing rain topped everything off with an inch of rock-hard ice. What a mess!
