The Castle first appeared in the historical records of Ulrich of Reichenstein in the year 1230. Over the centuries, several notable people have owned or been linked with it. Since 1729, the Castle has been in the hands of the Counts of Starhemberg. From the 18th century onwards the once mighty Castle was let gone to rack and ruin. Since 1989 the historic structure has undergone complete renovations works.
Ein Klassiker im mittleren Rheintal ist natürlich der DGS 59941 von Langenfeld nach Wassertrüdingen - besser bekannt unter der Bezeichnung Henkelzug oder Shampoo-Express. Am 20. April 2017 begegnete mir diese Leistung bei Assmannshausen, geführt von 140 432. Der Betreiber BayernBahn besitzt zwar Loks in attraktiverem Farbschema und besserem Pflegezustand, die Patina und die Kampfspuren vom jahrzehntelangen Einsatz der Einheits-E-Lok haben aber auch ihren Reiz. Links im Bild die Clemenskapelle und die Burg Reichenstein, der Rhein hatte zum Aufnahmezeitpunkt Niedrigwasser.
At the 20th of April 2017 I took this picture near Assmannshausen at the valley of the Rhine river. It shows freight train DGS 59941 from Langenfeld to Wassertrüdingen. This train can be seen regularly from Mondays to Fridays on this track. Its nickname is Henkel-train or shampoo-express because of the fact that the Henkel-company is transporting goods between two production sites of personal-care products via rail. The freight train was hauled by BayernBahn's 140 432. This company operates machines in a more attraktive livery and condition but this engine shows some patina and "battle scars" of the many years that were already spent on German rails. On the left side you can see the chapel of St. Clemens and the castle of Reichenstein.
the Rheinsteig is a hiking path along the Rhein/Rhin/Rhine/Rijn, this very european river which separates, connects and influences several countries.
a good example for the roots of the word in-fluence (Ein-Fluss)
the Mittelrheintal (middle Rhine valley) with its gorge and many castles is UNESCO world heritage.

On the hillside on the other bank of the river is Reichenstein Castle ("Burg Reichenstein"), located near the town of Trechtingshausen in Rhineland-Palatinate and now a museum and hotel. Reichenstein Castle appears to have been built around 1100 and is also known as Falkenburg. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley
Below it and to the left is Clemenskapelle "Clemens Chapel", The church was built in the second quarter of the 13th century and has remained largely unchanged.
Burg Reichenstein soll angeblich im 11. Jahrhunderts erbaut worden sein. Ihre Aufgabe wäre der Schutz der Grundherrschaft der Abteil um Nieder- und Oberheimbach gewesen.

Die Höhenburg Reichenstein, früher auch unter dem Namen "Falkenburg" bekannt, befindet sich auf einem Felsvorsprung am östlichen Gefälle des Binger Waldes
Schwarze 189-er sind auch am Rhein eine Plage, eine saubere SBB Cargo Variante kann man ja trotzdem mal zeigen: Am 12. Mai 2015 brachte ES 64 F4 - 107 den DGS 40201 von Rotterdam Waalhaven nach Gallarate rheinaufwärts und konnte bei Assmannshausen fotografiert werden. Auf der anderen Uferseite erkennt man am linken Bildrand die Clemenskapelle und daneben die Burg Reichenstein.
