Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav was part of the leading team of the Ghatak Platoon tasked to capture Tiger Hill on the night of 3-4th July 1999. He volunteered to be in the lead and fixed rope for his team to climb up the steep, snowbound rocky top. On seeing the team, the enemy opened intensive automatic grenade, rocket and artillery fire, killing three members of his team including the commander. Consequently, the platoon stalled. Realising the gravity of the situation, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav crawled up to the enemy position and in close combat, using grenades and his weapon, killed four of the enemy and silenced the automatic fire. He continued to charge, refused evacuation and was joined by his inspired platoon and captured Tiger Hill Top. For indomitable courage, grit and determination under extreme adversary Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav was awarded the Param Vir Chakra.
