Built in 1900 by the Chicago & Alton Railroad, the Jacksonville Station is located east of downtown. The station was near the midway point on the C&A's Chicago to Kansas City Route. A sign still hanging over the former station gives the distance to Chicago as being 216 miles, and to Kansas City as 273 miles.

Renovated in 1987, the old railway station has since 2021 been the home of Proud Richard's, an American cuisine restaurant.

This plane was built with ores that came from the earth. Slowly the smelted metals are breaking down and being re-absorbed into Mother Earth. 73 years it has survived here, so far. The white shiny metals in the background are mostly as shiny, almost mirror like, as the day they were made, the rest is breaking down just like rusting is dissolving into grains as you can see bottom left of the picture.

There are parts big and small scattered over a large area. The remaining big chunks are the undercarriage and the engines. But there are sections of 'skin' metal I found hundreds of yards to the north. They might have been carried by souvenir hunters, and put down when they got fed up carrying them, but those I saw I suspected were blown there by the wild winds that I'm sure will frequently blast the top of Bleaklow. But if someone wants a challenge, see if you can identify what part of the aircraft this is. This might help you www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=ueBW5vp... But not much! PS. The cathedral of complex fate, many times was partially destroyed, rebuilt. During the Soviet period it was closed and used for other purposes.

It is very strange that one of the main Orthodox churches of the city has no domes, and for the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit the domes should be green. However, the cathedral was formerly Catholic, and was not remodeled after conversion to Orthodoxy.

During all three of my trips to Hong Kong, the West Kowloon waterfront promenade has been a building site. This time, slightly less so although it's much smaller than my first visit in 2016. Perhaps one day I'll return and it'll be all done. Although it is part of a whopper of a development, so who knows.

There was a breakwater that I really wanted to get onto to take a unobstructed view of these towers but there was a ~5 foot fence and I felt very unsure about climbing over. For one thing, there were lots of people out and about and another... it just feels so much less 'ok' to break the rules in a country that isn't your own. I don't want to get into trouble on holiday.

The bell tower was built between 1688 and 1705 by Juan Bautista Viñes, whose name is engraved on a commemorative tombstone that we can see at its base. A masterpiece of Valencian Baroque, it has a hexagonal floor plan, and its elevation is divided into four floors separated by moldings, plus the body of bells and the upper finish. Originally, it was called a Solomonic bell because of the helical columns that adorn this upper part. It also stands out for the projections like pilasters that adorn its corners and for the decoration of its windows, where the ephemeral Baroque decorative style was transferred masterfully to stone.

The Kerrick-Barry House was built in 1886 for Leonidas Kerrick (1846-1907), a lawyer, a legislator, and a breeder of prized polled angus cattle. He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, and later in his life served on their board of trustees, as well as the board for the University of Illinois. The home's second owner was Edward Burry, a McLean County circuit court judge who occupied the bench from 1920 to 1933.

The two and one-half story house Victorian-era house is an irregular framed structure with shiplap siding. The house has a truncated hipped roof with an off-center front gable. The house has three dormers, all of which are slightly different but are of the gamble with over-hang variety. The railings on the porch are not original. The architect is unknown and the house is a mixture of styles.

The Kerrick-Barry House is a contributing property in Bloomington's Franklin Square Historic District, which is located northwest of downtown Bloomington. The Square is named in honor of Franklin Price, who was the mayor of Bloomington Mayor in 1856 when land for the Square was gifted to the city.

Franklin Square was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and was designated a local historic district in 1979. The houses of Franklin Square were built in a variety of architectural styles from the mid 19th century through the early 20th century, including Georgian Revival, Italianate, Colonial, Queen Anne, and Richardsonian Romanesque.

Bloomington is the seat of McLean County. It is adjacent to Normal, and is the more populous of the two principal municipalities of the Bloomington-Normal metropolitan area. Bloomington is home to State Farm Insurance, Country Financial and Beer Nuts. Illinois Wesleyan University is located here, while the neighboring city of Normal is home to Illinois State University and Heartland Community College. Bloomington is 135 miles (217 km) southwest of Chicago, and 162 miles (261 km) northeast of St. Louis. The estimated population of Bloomington in 2019 was 77,330, with a metro population of 191,067.

Stanley Ferry Aqueduct was built between 1836 and 1839 to take the Aire and Calder Navigation over the River Calder in West Yorkshire, England.

It is one of the earliest through arch bridges in the world and is considered to be the largest aqueduct executed in cast iron. Built using the same principle as the Sydney Harbour bridge but pre-dating it by nearly but a hundred years.

Designed by George Leather and built by H. McIntosh, the aqueduct has a span of (165 ft), a width of (24 ft) and a depth of (8.5 ft). It has 2 bow string girders supporting the waterway with suspension rods.

It is still in use today, though an additional wider concrete aqueduct was constructed alongside in 1981 and the bridge was then renovated.

Stanley Ferry is also the place where the Tom Pudding tub boats were loaded with coal from local collieries between 1863 and 1985

and transported down to Goole in long trains by canal.

The church was built in 1747-1762 according to the project of the architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli on Andriyivska Gora in memory of the visit of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna to Kyiv, on the site of the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, which was built in 1215 and existed until the beginning of the 17th century.

Drawings by B. F. Rastrelli were found in the graphic collections of the Albertina Museum in Vienna. In 1974-1987, a complete restoration of the church was carried out on the basis of these drawings.

The single-domed church building with a five-headed finish has the shape of a cross (31.5-22.7 m), in the corners of which are placed decorative towers on massive pillars, which play the role of a kind of buttresses placed diagonally across the building.

The contrast between the massive central chapter and the exquisite corner baths directs the movement of the silhouette of the church upwards.

The outer buttresses are decorated with pilasters and covered by three pairs of columns with capitals of the Corinthian order. The height of the church is 46 m, with a cross - 50 m; length – 30 m, width – 23 m.

Built at Saint Sylvestre-sur-Lot in the middle-ages, the Chateau is marked by more than 700 years of history.

Originally a fortified farm, the property has evolved with its successive owners. During the 16th and 17th centuries building work began to construct new main buildings and towers. In the 18th century the windows were completely redesigned in arch style. In the 19th century, the estate passed via marriage to the Dordaygue family who erected a building at the south side. The whole property was restored in 1992 before becoming a luxury hotel. However, in 2008, the company who ran the hotel went into liquidation and the estate fell into a state of neglect.

A new lease of life has been given to the chateau by Philippe Ginestet, local man and owner director of the Gifi group. In 2011 he purchased the estate and, with his friend and architect Jacques Bru, decided to create a unique hotel complex. Several months of work was necessary to get their audacious architectural project up and running and thus give birth to this exceptional place.

Irish Mail was built in 1903 by the Hunslet Engine Company for Dinorwic Slate Quarries as one of the 13-strong, ‘Alice’ class of Quarry Hunslets carrying works number 823. This class of engine is fitted with 7inch x 10inch cylinders and the boiler has a working pressure of 140psi.

The Hunslet Engine Company was established in 1864 and the Company built its first narrow gauge locomotive for the slate industry in 1870. The Company went on to build dozens of small steam locomotives for the numerous quarries in North Wales.

Dinorwic Slate Quarry comprised of a series of terraces up the mountainside which were linked by rope-worked inclines. Each terrace had its own railway, most with a steam locomotive and some with more than one. Locomotives would tend to spend a long time on one level and would generally only move if they required a major overhaul in the workshops at the base of the Quarry and may then go back into service on a different level. The Quarry was one of the largest slate quarries in the world and in its heyday, at the end of the 19th Century, employed over 3,000 people.

Built in 1892 in collaboration with British engineer Charles Assheton Whately Pownall during the Meiji era (1868–1912) when Japan was rapidly modernizing. It served as a railway passage between Yokokawa in Gunma and Karuizawa in Nagano. Services stopped in 1963, and the bridge was repurposed as part of a nature trail in 2001.

My village is mainly brick-built, and even the roofing tiles, at least for the older buildings, are made from clay. The reason is that slate became fashionable only in the 19th century, long after these buildings were erected. Larger rooms used to have their individual fireplace and, hence, their own chimney.

I really like that series title Joe O'Malley (www.flickr.com/photos/64joe/) gives to many of his pictures. Very adequate. I hope you won't mind me borrowing it! Last Friday I decided to finally do that walk from Frankfurt to Mainz. All together well over 40 kilometers, and doing that under such hot weather turned out to be as stupid an idea as it sounds. Until the Schwanheimer Düne it's a quite a nice walk. From there until the mouth of the Main well, if you're looking for 2022 top Minimal Tourism destination, don't look any further! Not worth a second time. These here are the jet fuel tanks in Raunheim, seen from the Ölhafenbrücke.
