Built in 1929, but not registered until 8 March 1930, GC 8638 left the factory as a Lagonda 2 litre speed model fitted with a fabric saloon body. This car, later upgraded with a 4453cc Rapide engine, is seen at The Classic Motor Hub.

During all three of my trips to Hong Kong, the West Kowloon waterfront promenade has been a building site. This time, slightly less so although it's much smaller than my first visit in 2016. Perhaps one day I'll return and it'll be all done. Although it is part of a whopper of a development, so who knows.

There was a breakwater that I really wanted to get onto to take a unobstructed view of these towers but there was a ~5 foot fence and I felt very unsure about climbing over. For one thing, there were lots of people out and about and another... it just feels so much less 'ok' to break the rules in a country that isn't your own. I don't want to get into trouble on holiday.

Built from the 11th century onwards and completed in the 15th century, it is the spiritual and human centre.

The four galleries are arranged around a small courtyard with a rainwater cistern inside.

Each gallery opens onto the courtyard through arcatures resting on columns surmounted by capitals

The NORTH GALLERY is the oldest and had a funerary function.

At the end of the gallery, the vaults are supported by strong consoles

which illustrate a fabulous bestiary (salamanders, quadrupeds.)

A WESTERN GALLERY Under a pediment with two ramps and a segmental arch decorated with fleurons, two tombs carved into the rock.

The remains and ashes of the first benefactors of the abbey in the 11th century have been placed in these tombs.

This is the only gallery in the cloister to have retained its Romanesque capitals

Built in 1885 by local builder George Willoughby, this historic stone structure once held the council chambers, library and auditorium, and is a great example of German Romanesque revival style architecture.

I think the modern new entrance disfigures the building.

The Bentall Centre is a large shopping centre in Kingston upon Thames, Greater London, England, which opened in 1992. It has been built in the retail space of Bentalls department store, first established on the site in 1867. Bentalls, now part of the Fenwick group, retains a large premium department store in the development. The centre is located adjacent to John Lewis Kingston, as well as the historic market town centre. There are 75 stores within the centre

Built in the 1930s and now in quite a derelict state, the steel-and-glass platform roofs at Duisburg central station exude an aura of bygone industrial times, particularly at night.

...very nice of them to do so.....

The first fortified structure was not built on the island until the early 13th century as a defensive measure, protecting the lands of Kintail against the Vikings who raided, settled and controlled much of the North of Scotland and the Western Isles between 800 and 1266. From the mid 13th century, this area was the quite seperate “Sea Kingdom” of the Lord of the Isles where the sea was the main highway and the power of feuding clan chiefs was counted by the number of men and galleys or “birlinns” at their disposal. Eilean Donan offered the perfect defensive position

Built between 1689 and 1691, the San Michele Tower has always served to protect the city and its salt. With its square plan, 13.5 m per side, 22.5 m height and 3 m thick walls, the Tower was actually a fortress, including a number of openings, windows and gaps equipped with short and long-range weaponry.

Built around 1865, the 20 stamp mill ran until 1875. For a while it was the primary mill for the mines of Ione. In the 1890's the machinery was moved to the (still standing) mill at Berlin, where it can be viewed as one of the main exhibits of Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Historical Park.

My village is mainly brick-built, and even the roofing tiles, at least for the older buildings, are made from clay. The reason is that slate became fashionable only in the 19th century, long after these buildings were erected. Larger rooms used to have their individual fireplace and, hence, their own chimney.

I really like that series title Joe O'Malley (www.flickr.com/photos/64joe/) gives to many of his pictures. Very adequate. I hope you won't mind me borrowing it! Last Friday I decided to finally do that walk from Frankfurt to Mainz. All together well over 40 kilometers, and doing that under such hot weather turned out to be as stupid an idea as it sounds. Until the Schwanheimer Düne it's a quite a nice walk. From there until the mouth of the Main well, if you're looking for 2022 top Minimal Tourism destination, don't look any further! Not worth a second time. These here are the jet fuel tanks in Raunheim, seen from the Ölhafenbrücke.

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves and comments, they are always appreciated :)

Built in 1837 in Oatlands, Tasmania. The windmill had it's sails restored in 2010, having lost them in a storm way back in 1909.

Built to be the Pennsylvania State House, the building originally housed all three branches of Pennsylvania's colonial government. The Pennsylvania legislature loaned their Assembly Room out for the meetings of the Second Continental Congress and later, the Constitutional Convention. Here, George Washington was appointed Commander in Chief of the Continental Army in 1775. The Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were both debated and signed inside this building. The tower you see today dates to 1828 when the city hired architect William Strickland to restore the original steeple. Strickland deviated from the original design, incorporating a clock and additional ornamentation.

The Dairy in the New Garden was built to plans by the master builder, Carl Gotthard Langhans, on the shore of the Jungfernsee lake at the northernmost tip of the New Garden in Potsdam, Germany. Construction was carried out from 1790 to 1792 by Andreas Ludwig Krüger.

In 1843/1844 Frederick William IV. had the building extended. To a design by the architect Ludwig Persius a second storey was added under the direction of Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse and the southwest corner was enhanced with a tower. Battlements run along the edges of the roof and give the building a Norman character.

A second expansion was carried out in 1857 with the engine or pump house, which was built to water the New Garden. The high, slender chimney is part of that technical modification. The upper basin for the supply of water is nowadays located within the Belvedere on the Pfingstberg.

n 1928 a restaurant was established in the building that became one of the most popular destinations for day trippers in Potsdam until the Second World War.

Its occupation by the Red Army at the end of 1945 and the destruction by fire of part of the building ended its gastronomic function. The dairy was still in this ruined condition when the Berlin Wall was built in 1961.

In 1991, after the Wende, renovation and restoration measures were carried out on the old building and, in 2003, it was able to re-open as a brewery and restaurant

Built in 1892 in collaboration with British engineer Charles Assheton Whately Pownall during the Meiji era (1868–1912) when Japan was rapidly modernizing. It served as a railway passage between Yokokawa in Gunma and Karuizawa in Nagano. Services stopped in 1963, and the bridge was repurposed as part of a nature trail in 2001.
