“Then I chopped it down,” declared Serpent.

“But why?” asked Cloud.

“To style, create and build my own IKEA sofa and cupboard set,” said Serpent.

“Oh, my!” exclaimed Cloud impressed. “Did you make it up?”

“Yeah,” admitted Serpent, “I’m actually buying a set next week.”

Cloud winced.

Two green Mustangs in two days......

Key to the Mustang legend is its appearance in film and television. King among all screen Mustangs is the 1968 390 GT from the 1968 Steve McQueen film - Bullitt.

The car was simple. Dark green. Big engine. limited trim. All fast.

Possibly not fast enough to keep pace with its screen nemesis, the 1968 Dodge 440 Magnum driven by the bad guys.

As a Lego model, this dark green Mustang took some planning to get the right parts, there are no fakes or painted parts though. To simplify matters, the Mustang is built as a 10-wide, perhaps a little on the narrow side. The width also restricts the build to a brick-built engine, instead of the usual technic piston engine. The car features full working suspension though.

If you like the idea of building one of these beauties - the instructions will be released in book form later in the year........

A cheap build I'm working on for my model railroad. Core is 1/4" plywood scrap from the garage with a bunch of styrene strip and sheet added. I'm going to try and build all the window frames from scratch...we'll see how that goes.

My first 1/32 build inspired by Christina Garcia's scale of choice. I have had this kit for several years in a partial build state. I finished it with this unique black finish the Navy used for a training unit in North Island SD CA

Church of St Michael de Rupe, (St Michael of the rock) Brentor Devon, built of local volcanic stone, formerly rendered, with local Hardwick stone dressings. It stands on a rocky tor overlooking the Burn valley, all that remains of an ancient volcano. The climb to the top is short and steep, but the views are well worth the effort .

One of 2 parish churches here, it was founded in c1130 and is believed to be the 4th smallest in England, at only 40 feet in length, and stands at a higher elevation (340 metres) than any other. Sometimes a tight fit for the congregation ! www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=436578023218965&set=ecnf...

This was firstly a private chantry chapel for the Giffard family, served by a pair of secular priests and a clerk from Tavistock Abbey. Legend says that Robert Gifford, Lord of the Manor of Lamerton, was caught in a terrible storm at sea. He prayed for deliverance to St Michael and vowed that if he was spared he would build a church on the first land he saw - this would have been his view if the lower land in between was covered by fog. www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=393144804228954&set=ecnf...

Standing in this very exposed position, its fortified design had only one 12c window to the north and south sides of the nave and a small narrow chancel.

This chapel was sequestered by the Bishop of Exeter who rebuilt it in the 13c, being rededicated in 1319 by Bishop Walter de Stapledon, later Lord High Treasurer of England,

The possessions of Tavistock Abbey, including Brentor church, were seized by the Crown at the Dissolution of the Monastery, and Brentor was granted to Francis Russell, 2nd Earl of Bedford,

There is evidence of considerable repair over the ages.

Alterations were made in the 15c when the three stage tower was added and the chancel extended to the same width as the nave, (the east front masonry indicates narrow width of the original chancel). Also probably the steeply-pitched 13c roof was replaced by an almost flat 15c one protected from the weather by tall battlemented parapets supported on the 13c corbel table.

The probably 15c plain octagonal font of granite survives www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/t5ih2Xn3tt The rim of bowl retains fastenings to keep the holy water safe .

All restored in 1889- 1890 when the interior roof was renewed, with massive rafters, said to be a copy of its 15c predecessor, , moulded to the nave, unmoulded to the chancel,, www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/YcQ9a4CHPP The six sided drum pulpit, benches and altar were also added .

The Batten family of Bremesbatch in the parish, have a slate memorial to a Walter Batten who was buried in 1677 & the name Walter Batten is on the 1694 sundial. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/1x9H05949F Later Lance Corporal John Henry Batten, youngest son of W H Batten again of Bremesbatch who died in Mesopotamia Sept 17th 1916 aged 20 years has a memorial on the nave wall. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/640fp2j524

Following major repair works in 2016, the roof has been fully refurbished, and electric lighting is run off solar panels on the roof (sadly, the Victorian gas lamps have been condemned as unsafe) – There is Evensong every Sunday at 6pm from Easter to Michaelmas (at the end of September). Through the winter, there are festival services (our Advent and Epiphany Carol Concerts, and the Christmas Day 3pm Carol Service are highlights). There is a popular One Friday Easter Ascent on Good Friday, and the aim is for services at least once a month, all year round.

The church is a popular venue for weddings;

Below the church, on the slopes of the tor, are obvious earthwork remains of an Iron Age enclosure.

Next we wandered into Build & Test. This is the most interactive part of Legoland when it comes to building things. They even had Lego Mindstorms (programmable robots, like what Molly and I did after school), but you had to sign up for a 45 minute class in future time slots which was more than the girls were up for. But they also had cars that kids could build and race.

Since 1897 was the prestigious Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic crossing in the hand of North German Lloyd. The shipping company then built the largest, most luxurious, and fastest ocean liners. In 1904 British @CunardLine set out to build a ship that should retake the Blue Riband and 240,8-meter-long Mauretania and her sister ship Lusitania were laid down and they launched 2 years later, in 1906. Mauretania set a new record on her maiden voyage. But that came at a cost: vibrations of the turbines powering the four gigantic propellers made parts of the ship inhabitable and the ship consumed about 1,000 tons of coal per day. And only four years later White Star Line launched the first ship of the Olympic-class, which surpassed Mauretania by almost 30 meters and with amenities hitherto unheard of on an ocean liner. But while RMS Olympic, for her part, was surpassed in length and tonnage by German Vaterland just three years later, Mauretania held the Blue Riband for 20 years, longer than any other ship before her. Like many superliners of her time, she was built with government loans, which meant that Cunard was obliged to hand their ships over to the Royal Navy during wartime, where they were converted to troop carriers or hospital ships. Mauretania was lucky and survived the Great War, so that she entered service again in 1919. She served her North Atlantic route for a decade and was refitted to newer standards in 1929 to beat her own record once more, but lost the Blue Riband to Lloyd’s brand-new SS Bremen. In the wake of the Great Depression, she was commissioned to do cruises in the Northeast until she was sold to be scrapped in 1935. Nevertheless, parts of the furniture survived to this day as interior of a pub in Bristol and exhibits in nautical museums across Great Britain.

The model consists of 723 pieces and is built in scale 1:650. Mauretania is constructed in her pre-war Cunard Line design with black hull and red funnels. 65426 and 64529 are not yet available in white but fit the shape at this scale and color perfectly. The large round inlets on the Boat Deck (represented by 4599 in white) are greatly exaggerated in size but recreate the ventilation structures rather believable.

This is how the frame stores. Not for long, however. Suspension tends to limit this
