Nearly 30 firefighters are on scene at a massive fire at a recycling plant in north Richmond Saturday.

After many days the sun finally broke through the grey clouds. Much like the weather, it is important to reach for the sweet things in life when the road has been rather rough. Here's to finding moments of joy and love.

A horrific fire broke out in a 34 units 4-story condo building not too far down the road from us at 3:45pm yesterday, the cause was still under investigation but believed to start from a lower unit in the north end. It took quite a while for the fire departments to arrive and get the water going. 14 fire departments showed up along with two boats which pulled water from the lake.
All residents in that building got out safely, but 12 of those 34 units had totally collapsed and the 3 other totally burnt by 8pm. The ground floor was a parking garage, so cars were either damaged or trapped.
It's devastating to those who lost everything they owned, I couldn't even begin to imagine their emotional pain and suffering, let alone the financial loss.
This photo was taken about 45 minutes into the fire. I had no clue it's happening until I looked out at the lake and saw many boaters out there all looking in one direction.
I could never forget the smell of soot in my life!

Toy Car on Acrylic
A little girl was playing with a toy car spilling acrylic on red surface. She said to me that the weather was very bad, so the car broke down. There was an accident but nobody injured.

As I was heading back home last weekend the sun broke through the storm clouds on the western horizon and I was lucky enough to be going through some of the most beautiful country in Loudoun and Warren Counties of Virginia at the time. So I turned down a road and raced around until I found this lovely little farm... sometimes luck is in your favor. ;-)

I (re)made this crystal bead necklace just the other day, and stupidly broke one of the beads while doing so (I used the wrong pliers, and instead of the wire, the first bead next to the clasp broke). You've seen a small part of this necklace before, for our first theme of 2024, "New" (please see the first comment).
Back in January, I had just newly stringed this lovely necklace, but with a pre-fab jewellery wire that had half of the clasp already mounted so it would be easier to do. It was, but other than I'd thought, the clasp's materials were neither stainless steel nor sterling silver, so the atomically thin silver layer came off quickly. Annoying. But, on the other hand, it allowed me to try again and get the mounting of the clasp properly done with crimp beads (and a proper silver clasp), something I've always struggled with (regarding the finishing part when it comes to mounting the connection ring and Cartier carabiner to the already beaded necklace). And I finally, finally got the knack of doing it the right way. I will remake this necklace again once I've found a bead to replace the broken one. I want to do it in Wabi-sabi style so I hope to find a bead of the correct shape and size but with a different colour. But for now, I'm wearing it as is, one bead shorter, because at the moment, it's my favourite necklace.
For this image, I put the smaller part of the broken bead (I've kept the pieces) on the connection ring of the clasp so the ring and the crimp beads are visible. This time, I thought a black backdrop looked nicer than the apricot-orange background I'd used for my previous photo of this necklace because it added more depth to this quite different presentation. The image is an in-camera focus stacking, and combining the 15 single RAW files in Helicon Focus provided a slightly better result than the automatically in-camera processed Jpg. I removed the inevitable dust but not the signs of usage on the crystal beads.

German Queen HeirLoom Tomato. The plant grew very high with just these two fruits connected on the same branch.
Not the best photo but this is the moment I found out there was three chicks in the nest and the only time I got all three together so it is special to me. One of the chicks has already fledged and the other two are now sitting on a branch because part of the nest broke :-(. I am sure it won't be long before they fledge also. I got some nice pics of mama owl yesterday and will post one soon.

The local farmers are cheering as they can stop feeding and watering their cattle on a daily basis
There are lines running everywhere on this ridge and I was trying to work out what works best .... a lot of stitching though

From Ham Hill, South Somerset. After a totally grey and rainy day the sun broke through briefly in the evening and I went to Ham Hill to get a few shots of the passing weather front. It was cool and clear and I watched a few rooks and a couple of kestrels soaring over the hill.

It was strange yesterday, the sun never broke through and we were shrouded in a cloak of fog which made the day very cold. Luckily the visit from the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister went well, an awe had a great opportunity to raise the profile of the work for the High Brown Fritillary. Everything will be alright is by The Killers, let's hope they will be.
