* We made a trip to Filey the other day I have not visited this little town for some time . It sits between Bridlington and Scarborough it's also at the end of the Wolds Way trail. This is a shot of the Brigg or as it is known locally Carr Naze. It was used in many of East Yorkshire cowboy films .
When you stand on the beach at Filey you can really see how the way the landscape changes on the East Coast of Yorkshire . If you look south you are able to see the sheer vertical Cliffs at Bempton these are chalk cliffs , in fact the northernmost chalk cliff in Britain. I have posted many shots of these cliffs as it is the site of the RSPB bird reserve .
If however you look to the North, Filey Brigg’s crumbling red cliffs look like badlands from the Wild West. The cliffs of Carr Naze, especially on the side facing the bay, are mostly composed of glacial deposits which are soft and easily eroded. Underlying these, and showing more clearly on the seaward side, are a succession of limestone and sandstone strata. At low tide these rocks can be seen to form an extensive platform on the bay side and towards Brigg End
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.
I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .

I had a specific hope from this sunrise shoot of the Buttercross in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, and that was to capture the sun rising at the end of the street on the left (Wrawby Street). But unfortunately there was an annoying slither of cloud on the horizon and by the time it cleared, the sun had moved too far to the right. Maybe I’ll be luckier another time.
Shot as a 5 shot panorama (each bracketed) with my Tilt Shift, and stitched in Lightroom. The highlights on the front of the building are due to spotlights above the upper windows.
The Buttercross, historically was the Brigg Town Hall, but is now used as a tourist information centre and as an events venue.

A long exposure shot taken on a very gloomy, flat, none photographic day. I miss the sunny sunrises !!!!!!
A view across Filey Brigg and Bay towards Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs. Though the weather looks sunny and warm it was quite cool due to the onshore easterly wind which was resulting in the sea breaking over the Brigg and a big swell running into the bay
A cliff packed with guillemot at Filely Brigg. Interesting how the auks at Filey are predominantly guillemot but a few miles down the coast at Bempton they are predominantly razorbill. Not sure why. Puffin numbers vary dramatically from place to place as well but that is easily explained by their need for nest burrows. The other two species nest on cliff ledges.I think these birds are pairing off in preparation for nesting.

Two long distance footpaths meet at Filey Brigg. The Cleveland and the Wolds Way
0748 Drax - Immingham diverted via Brigg crosses the New River Ancholme near Brigg. The gas fired power station has no connection with the railway, but is on the site of an old sugar beet works, if you look towards the rear of the train you can see the trackbed of the previous rail connection angled towards the site. The River Ancholme runs through Brigg, just behind the camera, and has been the site of discovery of old boats, the oldest from 800BC. More recently the river has been straightened to help with navigation and drainage, hence the 'New' river name.
I've been to this location 3 times in as many weeks knowing at this time of year, with the sun heading south, it's a great spot for sunrise. Unfortunatley, the weather has had other ideas on each visit, with rain, dull and flat light spoiling the occasion. Hay ho! that's landscape photography for you!! :)
