…it is a serious thing

just to be alive

on this fresh morning

in the broken world.

~ Mary Oliver

I'm sure many of you will recognize this place, as I've posted many images from here. This one is from a few years ago. I saw it in my archives and it filled me with a sense of calm just looking at it. Hope it won't be too long till I can go back.

Theme: Landscape

A very interesting marsh landscape we crossed when criss-crossing the North fjords of Iceland on our way from Siglufjordur to Bloenduos.

Job 7:19 “How long will it be before your eyes are turned away from me, so that I may have a minute's breathing-space?”

A loving couple enjoying the sunset hand in hand in the Norfolk sea. The only seaside resort on the East coast that faces West, great for sunsets.

Monochrome image of a meadow on a foggy winter day. Lots of negative space which could be a metaphor for the breathing space much required at the end of a tough year worldwide. (Explored Christmas 2021).

At some stage I'll probably upload the more classic seascape from this location but today can't resist including the group of young men who were having a great time at the shoreline.

Seems like a good time to say thanks to friends, contacts and regular visitors for all the support, feedback, advice and copious amounts of inspiration over the past year.

It's always appreciated.

We escape reality not to reject it, but to breathe within it. In the rush of obligations and noise, we seek refuge—whether in art, music, nature, or quiet moments that slow time. These escapes offer clarity, untangling thoughts and easing burdens, reminding us that life is more than demands.

Stepping away renews us, giving perspective and space to dream. Reality Escape is the bridge between exhaustion and restoration, where the weight of the world dissolves, if only for a moment. In that pause, we rediscover who we truly are.

After moving here we began to note how the sun rose above different mountains. During the year, the inclination of the Sun's trajectory in the sky changed sunrise from a bit north of true east in the summer months to south as we near the winter solstice and the shortest day.

Or, as editors at Wikipedia note:

"For an observer at a northern latitude, when the northern pole is tilted toward the Sun the day lasts longer and the Sun appears higher in the sky. … In the northern hemisphere winter solstice occurs on about December 21, summer solstice is near June 21, spring equinox is around March 20 and autumnal equinox is about September 23."

October early evening looking over Cook Inlet to the Kenai mountain range. The sun appears to come mostly from a low angle from the south. Less harsh than the overhead sun of summer. Easier on the eyes, at least to me.

Thanks for looking!

(With the tide partially out, tough to align. I chose along the Kenai range rather than the closer tidal shore.)

Quiet afternoon during a break in this week's rain. Kenai Range and Turnagain Arm with Cook Inlet at low tide. Most migratory birds have flown south.

A wonderful place to breathe even when clouds or snow obscure the peaks.

Yesterdays walk was to Drigg beach on the coast of Cumbria. The sun was quite warm but the nip in the breeze kept in check any thought of sunbathing. Just a beautiful day to be alive, And Breath ..

Happy Fence Friday everyone!

Thanks for all your recent views and comments, I'm very grateful to you for stopping and looking. I've been slow to comment in the past few weeks, hoping to catch up very soon.

Silence spreads like a wordless prayer. The lake breathes slowly, as time dissolves along the line where water meets sky. Nothing asks for haste.

There is an invisible dialogue between she and the horizon – a conversation that needs no sound, only presence. The tree, stripped of its leaves, understands. It bends with the wind but stands tall, holding secrets that winter cannot erase.

The bench is not just a place to rest but a space where thoughts drift lightly, dancing between what is and what once was. Solitude, here, does not weigh heavy. It spreads like light over the water, turning every absence into a poem.

At the lake’s edge, what feels missing becomes whole.

***

The photo is about a lonely woman who is walking along the road. The woman is lonely like the lonely tree standing alone on the left side of the frame.

I'm very pleased to confirm to my Flickr friends that 'Web Spinners and Deer Stalkers' has won the 'Breathing Spaces' category in the International Garden Photographer Of The Year (IGPOTY) Competition 2015. Congratulations to all the other winners! The exhibition is well worth a visit - there are some stunning images!

Following on from my 'Web Spinners and Deer Stalkers’ category win last year. I’ve had further success in IGPOTY this year with another Bushy Park image. This time 'Winter’s Morning' was awarded a Highly Commended. The IGPOTY9 book is out now and the exhibition is on at Kew Gardens’ Nash Conservatory until 13th March 2016.

Today's challenge for ODC is one that my inital response was to ignore and not do - the topic?

'Our parents war'

i.e. something that depicted something they were passionate about,

or even wider possibilities..

The person who set this topic is supremely creative so I hope he'll forgive me for deciding that the freedom to think - whoever we are and whatever our history - is both simply and profoundly vital!

We are all part of this wider entity we call "Earth".

Access to sufficient open spaces to gain perspective matters!

Crop, rotated and person facing the other way - all Taz's suggestions and quite right too!

Another view from within Micheldever Wood. As the trees loose their leaves I'm hoping for more mist. With the Zeiss Makro Planar 100 again, a slightly warm tone was added to the highlights.

So I promised myself today that I would spend some time on image review. Curiosity made me look back to see what I was doing on this day last year. It turns out I was out chasing light on the water. At the time I felt the movement of the stream rendered this image a little too soft; now it appeals more.

1. photo in the middle

May MUSIC be always part of your LOVE. Music has always been part of your love.... how wonderful! (May I listen to the CDs too, once, later on??? It 'sounds' good!)

2. May yellow balloons of happiness fly skywards, always!

3. Your 'wish-book' - the most beautifully crafted I've ever seen :)

4. A small piece of your table to be bought from us!

5. RED balloons of love flying into the light!

6 & 7 Unending Love! - ¿? Looks like two question marks, doesn't it?! But there is NO question to it!!!! ?¿

8. Let each other always have enough air to breathe!

9. Give each other enough space to develop!

10. Put your own light (yes, that's the large balloon to the right!) aside to let your partner shine!

11. This is the 'coupon' for the Vespa hire during your honeymoon on your Greek Island!

12. Always pay attention to hearing the shy knocking of your partner's finger at your heart's door. Mostly needed when you want to keep that door locked.

13. And then, your marriage will be filled with joy, light, colour, sunshine and happiness....

Tokyo has these "mini" parks scattered among the high rises and towers. A bit of a breathing area - usually with benches to rest on. Kind of needed too - Tokyo can be exhausting - it is truly a BIG city.

A 45 image stitch/planet of the sundial in the Breathing Space Park on Grosehill road in Wallasey.

At two o'clock in the dome of St Peters and at 8 is the water tower of Grosehill reservoir.

The spike and its shadow contain blend errors, mainly due to my rushing while capturing the images, but also due to my lack of knowledge in how to capture them in the best way for the stitching software to deal with them. Now that I've had a go a return is needed so I can get this right.
