Terra, acqua, fuoco e aria...

Grazie, AnnFrau ho trovato un commento per questa foto (che ha preso posto su explore)!

It was the sunrise colors moment captured before the raining time! One of the lucky snapshot I took :-)

Some flowers just don't open evenly..

500 million years ago this large boulder (about half the size of a Mini car) at the base of a waterfall was once part of a mountain range as high as the Himalaya. Over the millions of years since then the elements, primarily water (ice in winter), have taken their inexorable toll and eroded those magnificent mountains down to the 3000ft'ers they are today. It was in this particular hanging valley of Cwm Idwal that Charles Darwin came to twice when writing his breakthrough work The Origin of Species. Here he found evidence that Earth's age and history was far greater than that proposed by religions, for he saw in the rocks the fossilised remains of sea creatures and plant life that existed when this part of Wales lay beneath a huge ocean. He also realised that the structures of the mountains and valleys were created by the vast glaciers formed during the various Ice Ages that our planet has gone through, and will keep going through, over the millions of years since its formation from stardust.

I always find it humbling to look at something that's changing on a timescale so immense that it makes my own lifespan appear to be no more substantial than that of a fly. What's even more mind blowing is that the main culprit of this change is water, a soft, formless, constantly changing substance so necessary for all life and yet capable of destruction as much as it is creation.

Leeds Pride - 6th August 2023

Taken quickly through a window at the travelodge in Egham Surrey. Doesn't really do the rays of light coming through the clouds justice, but it looked pretty cool! :)

I was fortunate to capture this light from Beacon Fell, just before the sun went below the clouds.

The giant ol' pine tree through the fog

This was the end of the cave in 2009, the ice being much lower then. This year we managed to dig a way through the boulder floor into the continuation of the cave.

Picher was home to mines that supplied bullets for U.S. soldiers fighting in World War I and II. On April 24, 2006, Reuters reported that Picher had been scheduled to be closed and all residents removed. Due in large part to the removal of large amounts of subsurface material during mining operations, many of the city's structures have been deemed in imminent danger of caving in.

A few wintery impressions from the south of Brazil... certainly more drama than sunshine and blue skies!
