My entry for Bio-Cup Round 1: Fusion with Galaxy Squad.
My entry consists of a green explorer robot, his flyer, a Praying Mantis bug, a Brazilian Treehopper bug, and a small nest platform.
Opponents
Yes, folks, I'm still alive! I was, however, forced to admit defeat to my bat flower design. The largest of the individual flowers in the cluster of 20 were giving me fits, and thoughts of attempting the smallest ones made me want to curl up in the fetal position and cry. When I realized how thoroughly that design had sucked the joy out of origami for me, I wadded it up and chunked it. Now I have decided to move on to a Brazilian Treehopper - nothing like a crazy looking insect to rejuvenate my origami enthusiasm! In fact, treehoppers in general, other than Umbonia Spinosa (the one that looks like a thorn), seem underrepresented in the world of paper folding - I intend to also make a Costa Rican Treehopper in the near future.
2015 has been a frustrating year origami-wise. After my bat flower design defeated my best efforts, my first attempt at a brazilian treehopper fell through as well. After collapsing the base, I realized that not only were the flaps poorly arranged, but I had not given myself enough extra paper to properly shape the prominent bulbous features, the most important part of the model. It turned out for the best, however - not only does this CP fix those issues, but it is more efficient and elegant as well (no extra flaps, layered thicknesses are in more appropriate locations, etc). The head structure is finished and turned out exactly as I envisioned. I have no doubt I can finish it soon (probably next weekend).

My favorite design is the Brazilian Treehopper bug. I wanted to create a unique insect, so I looked up the most bizarre bugs and this is the one I liked the best. (Although I did find at least one MOC of this bug that’s been done before, so it’s not the first time.) It’s not completely accurate, as the body isn’t long enough, but I like how the compact design worked out, including some nice uses of the egg / leaf piece from the Hero Factory Invasion from Below series. The head also utilizes a Metru torso, a piece I have rarely MOCed with before. The head pods ended up being black and brown due to parts limitations, but they’re different colors on the original bug, so I still think it works.

“Disciple of Magnetic Ninjutsu”
Unknown to the Maverick Hunters, the former hunter turned brainwashed assassin Magna Centipede had an apprentice, Magnet Treehopper whom he trained prior to his death. Having trained on his own for years, Treehopper is now ready to prove himself by destroying the Maverick Hunters and avenge his master’s death. He has taken refuge in a gravitational maze facility in a rainforest.
The weapon you obtain after defeating Magnet Treehopper is Bounce Magnet. It fires a magnetic orb that bounces across the area, pulling in debris after each bounce, creating a large ball of debris for more damage. It can also pull in certain enemies as well. The charged version generates a magnetic barrier that pulls in enemies and destroys them while protecting the user.
Designer notes:
My Mega Man X9 boss concepts needed an insect-based one. I came across pictures of a Brazilian Treehopper whom this character is based off to. It looked cool and freaky (especially with those “orbs” and “tail”) that I thought that’d make a good Mega Man X boss. And for those wondering, those wings are transparent.
