Brandt Hoekenga, Creative Guy, and Blythe Carrillo, Marketing Curator, at TIV walked through two rebrand projects from beginning to end with similar goals but very different approaches:
• The Santa Rosa Violence Prevention Partnership #PARTERSHIPUPSR
• The Presidio Social Club
Brandt Hoekenga discussed how the creative process for The Presideo Club was entirely different than The Partnership. The Presidio Club already had a strong logo so, instead of starting with a creative brief, the team started with a retainer and the owner told them what he wanted and they just go with that.
With the Presidio Club, they wanted to start with a sense of place since the setting is in the historic presidio building with a beautiful deck. This is not traditional branding, it is all about capturing a sense of place at the Presidio. The restaurant brand is the whole experience, this is how they approached and captured the feeling in brand.
This was one of the most exciting parts of the processes that piqued my interest, the experience with the brand that involves:
- Cross-Channel Customer Experience
- Customer Experience Management
- Service Design
- User Experience
- Interaction Design
They began by drawing the usual elements of the restaurant. They began with hand drawn, rough, rough font, there is a dinner, lunch menu, and a cocktail menu.
They considered the audience, the patrons who are 40-70 year olds, families, a nice bar, it is not very hipster. It is like a club but there are no dues.
The design elements: they had a strong logo already. The text is very large to make readability easier for their patron age group. They wanted to continue with the nice, clean look but make it look more classic.
The printing and budget logistics: They went with an online printer to avoid file compatibility issues and keep costs down. Files are frequently incompatible.
The last phase in the process is The Drive: the long-term relationship considerations: when discover and design to work the best, most fluid and offer the best ROI from the initial investment of time and knowledge that drives that brand forward. An ongoing relationship is hugely powerful. It is going to pay off rather than doing a one-off thing. it is an approach.
