AAW October 1 - 8: Post-Processing Fun

WIT: Well, I wanted to try this kind of photo, so I took a picture of my better half, and then in post went through lots of layers and masking, lots of mistakes and going over steps again, and tweaked the colours to make it look the way I want. I also used the warp tool to warp the face a bit to show his face being drawn back into the dispersion. I must say MY brain hurt after finishing this processing, haha!

Yellow Brain Fungus / tremella mesenterica. Pioneer Meadows, Derbyshire. 29/01/18.

A pleasing local find growing on a thin fallen Hazel branch.

I had watched this fungus develop over about a week and seized the opportunity to photograph it after a night of heavy rain. Fully hydrated it was at its gelatinous best!

If you were the grand poobah of Inuyama castle, this would be your war hat.

Another marvellously named fungus. I think this is Leafy Brain (Tremella foliacea) as far as I can work out anyway. There are so many closely related species of fungus I’m never 100%

One of the Jelly Fungus family, if I have the identification right it is a fungus that develops and feeds on another fungus in decaying wood.

Nature is amazing!

One of the fascinating features in the White Pocket area is what they call "brain rock". These are little dome like protuberances that exhibit cracks and fissures throughout that give the appearance of the surface of a person's brain.

Rainbow Basin Natural Area, California

White Pocket is a dream place for people who take pictures. The way that light and dark play together, especially when the sun is coming up or going down, makes the rocks look even more interesting. It changes all the time so it's always different. The place being far away means not a lot of bright lights at night. This makes it great for taking amazing pictures of the stars.Walking in White Pocket is a unique adventure. The place is not big, but it has rough and uneven ground. You need to go very carefully there. There is no set path, so visitors can walk and find the special shapes at their own speed. It's a spot that promotes searching and gives prizes to the inquisitive. The 'brain rocks' or 'cauliflower rocks' are one of White Pocket's most intriguing features.
