This deserted signal box once controlled traffic at the intersection of the STEFER narrow-gauge line to Grotte Celoni and ATAC urban tramways at Porta Maggiore in Rome - picture taken in 1977
For TTV‘s GWP Build Style contest, which is now entering its “Vehicles and Mounts” category, I decided to recreate one of the very first Bionicle vehicle sets in the simpler GWP (or G3) style - The Boxor!
-
The back, just like the original, has a tohunga arm for its spine, and can hinge back for the cockpit top to hinge up and fit in Nuparu (or any other GWP style tohunga), which actually stays in place with a single stud on the seat, so you can actually have it look around without the top pressing on his head.
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes
Little boxes
Little boxes all the same
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

Giles Gilbert Scott, young architect of Liverpool's great gothic Anglican Cathedral, also designed Britain's iconic red telephone kiosk after winning a Post Office sponsored competition in 1924. The design was revised in 1935 to celebrate the Jubilee of King George V & by the end of the decade 20,000 of Scott's red K6 cast-iron Jubilee telephone kiosks were in use throughout the UK & became known internationally as a recognizable symbol of England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales.
Sad to say, in the mid '80s the UK began phasing Scott's box out of use ..... replacing it with a generic-type telephone booth. By the time conservationists won their fight to have the now non-operational red kiosks declared 'national monuments' many thousands had already disappeared from the landscape & can be found for sale on the internet in a wide variety of conversions ....... as liquor cabinets, shower stalls, even aquariums !!!! Some of those that survived, mostly in small towns & rural areas, are being used, in their original locations, as information booths, community libraries & the like. It's a great delight to find one on one's travels. PS: they're green in Ireland *~*

Lidded box with Dachshund millefiori cane decoration. The dachshund cane was my second attempt at a really complicated millefiori cane.....whew it took me ages, 2 weeks to be precise and once finished weighed a whopping 1.2 kg. After reduction I had a bit more than half left and its a bit more wonky than I hoped it would be, I think I need to practise this a lot....but not now I'm a bit canned out after all that! Now what am I going to do with all that dachshund cane!

I wanted to try Julia's kaleidoscopic Paper on a box and that one seemed a good choise even though it's not hexagonal, for it shows lots of the paper.

Crafts people volunteer to work in this room and show visitors how boxes were made by the Shakers. They can sell their boxes in the village shop.
You can see the modern conveniences used by the volunteers - first aid kit and safety glasses.
