Banana trees are not really trees - the trunk is really a pseudostem that grows in the same way grasses do. Each stalk produces a plant, flowers, and then dies. The fruit itself is a berry, though most bananas grown are sterile, seedless fruit (parthenocarpic). The fruits are picked green and ripened before selling - how do you think this is done?
