A Snowy Egret Soars into the morning sun at Bolsa Chica Wetlands.
Among the most elegant of the herons, the slender Snowy Egret sets off immaculate white plumage with black legs and brilliant yellow feet. Those feet seem to play a role in stirring up or herding small aquatic animals as the egret forages. Breeding Snowy Egrets grow filmy, curving plumes that once fetched astronomical prices in the fashion industry, endangering the species. Early conservationists rallied to protect egrets by the early twentieth century, and this species is once again a common sight in shallow coastal wetlands.
Kat and I visited Backdrop City on Sunday...cool place...so many backdrops to choose from! We had a lot of fun and some exercise! :)

May 30, 2019 was a good day at our house, I came home from work and discovered this new born by our driveway. A few hours later and twins were born in the backyard.

I get pretty excited with anticipation when I see her in the chute because I know its going to be good every time, this ain't her first rodeo. I'm not on the right side of the buck but I felt I had to showcase her anyway. It is like she's going to buck herself right off the screen.

This is the first of two catbird young ones to hatch. The nest is in a hedge near my office. I have been checking the progress of the nest since I first discovered it. Curiously, about 10 days ago I discovered 3 eggs in the nest. The following day there were 5. The day after that there were only 2. My ID guide says they usually lay 4 eggs so I'm not really sure what's up with the missing eggs. This little fellow is just a few hours old. There were two eggs last night. I am being as careful as I can to be considerate of the parents who seem not particularly concerned with me taking a quick peak every now and then. If I felt I was stressing them I would just leave them be. The parents feed daily at the suet feeder at my office window.

Technically, I guess they're hatched to run. Regardless, the greater roadrunner is aptly named. They can run at quite a pace. We've seen them in the deep desert or suburban parks like this one. Their tails and crest seem to be quite dynamic - always raising and lowering. Cool birds.
