A rather bonkers design, combining Aesthetic looking flowerhead with Art Nouveau leaves and a rather bright colour palette. 1880s or 1890s, on a T&R Boote blank. I think probably from T&R Boote, though other companies did use their blank tiles.

Thomas and Richard Boote established a pottery works in 1842, soon after making encaustic tiles under licence from Herbert Minton. Their main works was the Waterloo Pottery in Burslem, though many other works around Stoke were owned by this successful and large company. The tile making side of the business expanded in the late 19th century and they were one of the largest producers, and registered over 50 designs between 1878 and 1908. The company was eventually taken over by Richards in 1963.
Identifying the Victorian and Edwardian tiles made by T&R Boote is not always easy; their tile backs are reasonably distinctive, but they sold large numbers of tiles to decorating companies, and seldom marked their own tiles with registration or pattern numbers - indeed a Boote tile with a pattern number is more likely to have been decorated by another company. The tile top centre in this group has a registration number on the transfer print folded over onto the edge of the tile. Top left, the design appears in an 1899 advertising sheet. So the selection here is very small, but we can be pretty sure they are all Boote tiles. Corrections welcomed!
