This is the Marken lighthouse, given its name due to its shape ('paard' means 'horse' in dutch). The original was built in 1700, then reconstructed on top of the early foundations in 1839. It's still in use today for the recreational watersportsmen and woman.
Generated by electricity now, it gives 6 seconds of light, then 2 seconds in the dark.
I do recommend to see it large size. I myself was surprised to see the owner entering his house. Photo was taken when the evening falls. The lighthouse can only be reached by a half hour walking from Marken town. I went by bike ;-)

Couldn't resist shooting this 'street art'. Outside a bungalow in Kilchoan are these dogs made out of fishermen's yellow boots (proper fishermen always wear yellow boots to match their yellow capes and sou'westers). But aren't these clever? And the welly flower pots too?

In the Western United States there were many cemeteries called Boot Hill. It was the place where gunfighters who “died with their boots on” were buried.
Hanging was justice reserved for murderers and rapists. Judges did not sentence a person to hang for horse theft, but when no justice was forthcoming, cowboys and vigilantes often lynched the perpetrator.

While on a long drive in the middle of a summer afternoon I pulled in to the cemetery in Goldfield Nevada. Like many older western cemeteries, it is more accurately described as a complex of multiple separate but adjacent cemeteries. As it the desert sun was quite high in the sky thereby rendering the light too harsh for good visible light photography, I decided to walk the grounds with my “full spectrum” modified camera equipped with infrared filters. I knew from past visits to this wonderful old cemetery that there are a number of graves with rustic old wooden crosses on them. I was also curious how Joshua trees would reflect near infrared light. I found this grave with a wooden cross adjacent to a nice Joshua specimen and captured this image using my 830 nanometer “deep” infrared filter (no visible light gets through this filter, only a narrow band of near infrared light)
I’m pleased with the result and hope others are as well.
Shot in a remote corner on the west coast of Scotland. On the way down here I stumbled across an otter - there was a brief stand off before we both went our own ways. It was a magical moment, and the closest I've been to one in the wild.
Fresh morning light shines upon Boot Arch after fresh snow blanketed the area the previous evening. Winter. It’s still winter right? No, of course it is not. We’re a few weeks into spring, but I had intended to post more winter pics before a certain world calamity took hold. Like the flick of a switch I reprioritized my life to put health and safety first. And with everything going on photography while on my mind just has faded away from the priorities. Planned and unplanned trips evaporated, uncertainty clouded all thought. My cameras have not left their bags. But, here’s a happy image from Thanksgiving weekend before the storm clouds rolled in over humanity. The Sierra Nevada are enveloped in fresh snow, and the brilliant white frozen water contrasts with the warm hued granite of the Alabama Hills. Boot Arch stands proud in front of Lone Pine Peak’s triangular summit. The air was calm. The silence was sublime. When we all emerge from the pandemic storm, the mountains will be there waiting for us to return. I cannot wait to get back. I sincerely hope you and your family are safe from this pandemic. Stay home, stay safe, and wash your hands.
