I'll be booking a flight from New York back to Manila with a Korean airline this year, and one of my options is a flight with a really long layover in South Korea (14 hrs).I wanted to ask some questions before I book the flight, since I don't want to be stuck in the airport for 14 hours if I find out it's not possible.So how does it work? I've researched and saw that the airport offers free tours for people who have long layovers, but is it actually possible to not go on the tour but still go out of the airport? I was thinking of visiting Hongdae, seeing the nightlife there, etc. since I've heard really good stuff about it, but it's not part of any tour schedules.Also, would I need to apply for a Korean Visa to do that?Okay, so let's say that all goes well. Now I'll be asking for recommendations on what to do, especially maybe past 12:00 mn on a Monday. Are there lots of 24 hour coffee shops in the Hongdae area I can stay in until I board the train back to the airport?I've done some research about the train that gets you to/from the airport and into Seoul and I saw that the train runs from 5:00 am - 12:00 mn on weekdays, so I'm planning to just take the first train going back to the airport in time for my flight at 7:30 am. Is that enough time? (Also please correct me if I'm wrong about the train schedule stuff.)So yeah. I really hope I get some answers, especially from people who have done this before, or maybe from Hongdae locals.Thank you, in advance, to everyone who answers!PS.
