My travel companions queue up to book a jeep for our ride to the Dudhsagar waterfalls at the far end of Goa. The jeep booking office for Dudhsagar Falls is pretty chaotic, despite our opting for a separate jeep for just the three of us- it would have been a total mad house and very limiting had we decided to join a group to fill up the seven seats required for each jeep. The best time to visit the Dudhsagar falls is between October to May as the access to the fall is open for the Jeep. This jeep hire centre is run by from the local Dudhsagar Jeep Association counter at Collem, where we are now. You have to pay as much as Rs. 500 per person for a jeep ride and they squeeze seven people in one jeep. And with so many people nowadays being pretty heavily built, it is quite a squeeze, especially given the terribly bumpy road leading to the falls. This jeep however takes you only to the base of the fall. You will have to pay entry fees to the forestry department to enter the falls area the Dudhsagar Falls comes under their jurisdiction. Visitors are allowed a maximum of one and a half hours to spend at the fall before you return to the same jeep you came by. Another reason why we opted for our own separate jeep- with families and kids in tow with other visitors, and some of the visitors from outside Goa being rather aggressive and loud, that would have been total chaos. The same jeep then drops you back to Collem for your onward Journey. The three-streamed Dudhsagar waterfall, named for its milky waters has people frolicking in the pool at it's base and it's quite a challenging trek to get there from the jeep park over large rocks, and through the surrounding forest, even from the jeep stand, which is about 15-20 min away. You need to be pretty fit physically to do this Dudhsagar trip- which all three of us were unfortunately not! Pictures and more information about the Dudhsagar falls appear later in this album. Actually they aren't taking bookings, just doing the email! We then had access to the phone line to send, as long as we didn't give the office phone a virus! Through a cable to the outside world.
Camped here a couple of times on separate trips in. Once after we arrived, and then later after we returned from a trip to the mouth of the Jardine.
Have many images on C41 still to copy.. More than $1000 of prints for the trip still sitting in a box waiting to be stuck into several albums I bought with my ABN number for the Ozimages website and my redundancy career.....
