:: hovering in this space of crisp mornings, heat-filled late-summer afternoons and the breathtaking beauty of evening light. a lovely time of year, the slow transition of summer into autumn. the anticipation of cozy quilts, soft sweaters, copious mugs of warmth and the utter joy of watching the leaves fall, the satisfaction of hearing the crackle crinkle crunch underfoot. soon, very soon. until then...I promise to fully inhabit this last month of late-summer warmth and gorgeous golden light. currently re-reading this work of such haunting heartbreaking beauty. here's to a long, lingering weekend. ::
A quiet moment captured amidst the buzz of the Maailman kylässä (World Village Festival) in Suvilahti, Helsinki, Spring 2025.
In the middle of the book fair crowd, this young reader stood immersed drawn into the words of Epictetus, the ancient Stoic philosopher who once wrote, “We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them.”
The world around her, faded in the darkeness of ignorance and only her curious philosophical mind illuminate, literally and metaphorically. A rare candid frame where time seems to pause around the act of reading.

Today, we had a wonderful bike ride to the library with our daughter, who absolutely loves books.
She was especially excited after reading a Spidey comic where the Green Goblin, one of Spider-Man’s most famous villains, finds himself in a funny situation, he doesn’t have a library card!
It was such a relatable moment for her, as she was thrilled to realize that not only could she read books, but also proudly own her own library card and borrow books just like her favorite characters!
While I had a brief photo session inside, she spent time exploring Svenska barnböcker (Swedish children’s books). The Stadsbibliotek Malmö is an amazing place with its stunning architecture and incredible collection of books. You can borrow up to 50 books at a time, with a generous 4 weeks return period.
Truly a paradise for book lovers!

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Taken at the old Nicholas Hoare store on Front Street - Toronto's best-ever bookstore! I looked up while browsing books on a table and caught this pair of lovers...

I literally spent three hours inside the store to take this photo. I was the last person to walk through the door, not including the employees. Honestly, I could have spent another 27 hours there. The wood, the decor, and the red staircase were captivating! The books. ❤️

Shakespeare and Company, on the Left Bank just across the Seine from Notre Dame (37, rue de la Boucherie). This bookstore, often confused with the one founded by Sylvia Beach on 30 Rue de l'Odéon and frequented by Hemingway, opened its doors to booklovers and emerging writers such as Allen Ginsberg and the Beats 30 years later in the ‘50s. However, both sell primarily English-language books.
What gives this bookstore its charming characteristic is the "Tumbleweed Hotel" on the second floor.
Here, bookworms--nicknamed "tumbleweeds"-- are welcome to stay the night on one of the three rather shabby beds for free. The "payment" is to read a book and leave a short autobiography, or help out with some chores, which most gladly do. The permanent residents on these beds are two housecats, who pay little attention to the comings and goings of visitors.
On the other end of the second floor, which faces Notre Dame, you will find some wooden benches next to shelves of books, stacked all the way up to the ceiling. Here, you can sit and chat with friends without feeling obliged to purchase anything. Perfect for low-budget travelers who love a good intellectual conversation!
Day 19/365
Today's photograph is somewhat last minute, but it's something I've wanted to do for sometime.
One of the many things I love to do is sit down with a delicious book and lose myself in another world, become the character in the book and completely immerse myself in the story.
Quite sometime ago I read Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I've read virtually all of his books, but Dear John has to be my all time favourite. So much so, I went and bought it again (somehow my original copy went missing! :o) and I can't wait to read it again, despite how sad it is!
