Obviously, a TTA ship originally by Angus McKie.
Mark Boulton recently published (online and in print) his new book A Practical Guide to Designing for the Web. I love the minimalist design of the cover and the theme Mark and team seem to be setting up for their next books, Designing Grid Systems for the Web and Designing the Invisible.
Rick Wakeman, promoting his book, 'Grumpy Old Rockstar', at Birmingham Library Theatre, 15 Dec 2008.
Low light, no flash.
Lucha Libre: Masked Superstars of Mexican Wrestling features photographs by Lourdes Grobet chronicling the world of lucha libre, Mexico's take on professional wrestling. This hefty volume covers in vivid detail the lives of the luchadores, the arenas they perform in, and the fans that pay hard-earned money to cheer them on. The photos are colorful, impacting, and emotional and the book's use of typography is enough to make it worth the purchase.
"One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them."
A tribute to J.R.R. Tolkien.
Two-man interceptor based off the Avery Hornet from the Terran Trade Authority book "Spacecraft 2000-2100, A.D."
The nosecone is constructed of an end cap and eight tapering panels. The taper is formed with 75 degree slopes, and three different techniques were used to mount the sloped panels at the different angles required.
The side panels are 6 x 12 tiles with details built up on the edge studs, attached to the side of the hull using click hinges.
The top and bottom panels were only slightly more complicated, attached to a vertical brick column using hinge bricks, which was in turn mounted on the technic frame using axle bricks.
The quarter panels were the hardest due to the odd angle at which they're canted.
While we were up in NYC for Future of Web Design (my photoset, Doug turned me on to the 33 1/3 series of books. Each book, typically about 100 pages or less, is written by a different author about a different album that resonated with the author. I had a B&N gift card leftover from Christmas and went a little wild.

Kids with Cameras is an updated, expanded edition of the original, Born into Brothels. If you haven't seen the film, do yourself a favor and rent it. It's both jarring and inspiring.

Joy of Cooking devil's cake, chocolate buttercream frosting.
My son asked for a cake, and I swear we were so busy today, that if I had a mix, I would have used it. But since I didn't, I made it from scratch, and wow was it yummier.
I sent him home with enough pulled pork for a dozen sandwiches, plus enough chopped veg to give him salads for the week, and half a cake! I think he should come visit Mom more often! (Yeah, we worked him to death, too!)
Yay for sons.
Joy of Cooking recipe. It better be really good, because what a pain in the neck recipe. Smells great.
Braised beef short ribs, mashed potatoes, veg, yum. Joy of Cooking recipe, with the added bit of roasting them for 10 minutes at high heat, with BBQ sauce. I used oregano as the rub and with the braising liquid, and it's amazing how that one change was so noticeable from the last time I tried this, when I used marjoram. (here)
I also followed her suggestion to reduce the braising liquid instead of making gravy with it. It was really good, but the downside is that it doesn't make much that way, so left-overs will not have any gravy for the potatoes, which is sad!
Have I mentioned that grass-fed critters are yummy?! I think it's time for another trip to Pitcher Mountain farm. This was the last of the beef I got from them. My freezer is stocked with our own lamb, pork and chicken, but we've got to have some beef too! See? I need cows!
Zinfandel to go with it, of course! 7 Deadly Zins. (one of my all time favs!)
The pup sure appreciates the bones, and I gave the leftover veg to the chickens, which was also much appreciated.
