I got my copy of Charlie O'Shields latest book, One Little Mouse. It's a unique blend of storybook and activity book. The story's written in rhyme, and the reader is encouraged to decide what items are and draw them! I used gel pen to draw this loganberry. #sketchingstuff #DrawUponATime #OneLittleMouse

AAW July 15 - 22: Book Cover

WIT: I totally made this book up, thought this cute photo would make a good cover for a child psychology book.

cleaning my basement

It is (was) a cookbook probably late 1920's, into which someone had pasted hundreds of handwritten and newspaper recipes until (even at its prime when I found it a dozen years ago) it was swollen almost to bursting with its pages almost doubled through the gradual accretion of domestic gems.

My new book, Suburbia : the Familiar and Forgotten, is released today.

It features photographs from the north, south, east and west of Melbourne this time, unlike my earlier book, which was solely dedicated to the western suburbs, just like this site.

The bulk of the images have never seen the light of day before now.

It’s a 160 page large format hardback book, 297 x 263 mm.

You can have a sneak peek here on the publisher's website, who offer free delivery within Australia.

Also available throughout Australia in all 'good' bookshops

For those of you overseas who may be interested, this is your cheapest option, with free postage worldwide! Now also available from the UK as well.

And, as of August 6, 2019, also in the US.

French title is Elle et Lui

Swedish title PS from Paris.

A very pleasant read.

Thanks to Christiane D for telling me about this author. I have already started on another one of his books.

A boat, a book, and evening sunlight, with a light breeze along the water, and the sounds of the birds. Not a bad way to spend some time!

These books were actually arranged into steps to make stairs outside a bookshop in Rome, Italy.

A rare sight today but this book shop seems to survive and even thrive from the number of people always in there.

Constructed collaged/ mono-printed/resist-dyed habotai silk and paper - 76cm x 96cm - for sale

An artwork that I've had on the boil for some time which reached it's conclusion recently with a 'rush' of memories and feelings that came completely out of the blue as I worked on it.

I was listening to Radio 4 at the time, glad of the background noise but otherwise disconnected from whatever was being discussed, except for the words ' Book of Echoes' which somehow hit me right between the eyes and seemed to fit perfectly as a title to the work that I'd created and the inadvertently tapped into stream of consciousness.

I promise to do this once only. The whoop whoop dance. :-). Oh yeah oh yeah. Had another sale on Getty. From a book publishing company.

This photograph is my first attempt with the black and white filter. It wasn't a good day. Being so out of practice, I'd forgot a few things, and was having one of those days!

Downloaded a free trial of creative cloud yesterday, and it's wasted on me. I've not got a clue! And I tried to install thCop otoshe phS5 from the disk. The whole laptop goosed up, and I ended up resetting it. It's still a bit goosed, occasionaly when i'm typing, the curser key jumps back to a previous paragraph, or the page goes up/down. Does anyone know what it's doing ?

Discarded book from an English library.

It's been done a million times I know. But I needed to get this out of my system :)

Photographer Debi Treloar

In the two photos I post after this, you will see why I was so excited to find this book in a charity bookstall last week. What are the odds that I'd photograph the last remaining Kodak sign in Launceston and find this classic pre-digital age photography book within a few days? I got it for $2 by the way, and as you can see the condition is excellent.

When the advertisers say, "But there's more!" they really mean it. When I shot film years ago, Kodachrome was my favourite. I loved the colour it gave me and those yellows and reds are just so inviting. But there really is more exciting news...

Late yesterday afternoon I noticed in the window of our local camera shop a couple of film cameras. There was a Pentax looking very nice, but there was also a Nikon F90X with a Nikkor 28-70mm lens. Now that really got my attention, because although in my film days I used a Canon SLR and then later a Minolta SLR, I also have some vintage Nikkor F-mount lenses that will go perfectly with this camera. In fact it turns out I can use all my D850 lenses on it as well - as long as I use them manually.

I went back today and made the purchase, as I've been meaning to get back into film again for a little while. So for less than $200 I am now the proud owner of a pre-loved Nikon F90X SLR in superb condition. The camera has a reasonably fast AF and feels great in the hand. What's more, when you press the shutter you get that very distinctive "click". So cool.

But there's more! The lady who served me looked at the note with the camera and said, "Oh it says here there's also a bag and accessories." "Fantastic, that will save me buying another bag," I said. But when she arrived with the bag it turns out it was full of goodies. Two light meters (both I'm told in working order), two large speedlights (bigger than the one I already have for my D850 - not that I'm fond of flash I must say, but it will come in handy as filler light for the ISO 400 film); a nice shutter release for tripod use and a few other little things. Incredible value.

So I also bought some Kodak Ultramax 400 film, and for black and white the Ilford XP2 Super 400. It's going to be fun, and I'll show you some results in the future.
