Finished in 1887,Saint Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, IA. is one of the finest cathedrals in Iowa. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places....

Cropped to hide an unsightly "watch your step" sign which is a shame-the door is equally beautiful!

The original Pantheon was built by Marcus Agrippa in 27 B.C. - the inscription still says M.AGRIPPA.L.F.COS.TERTIUM.FECIT which means "Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, who has been consul three times, built this" on the outside of the building. Modern archaeological research has shown that the Pantheon now standing here is not the one Agrippa built - instead it was erected sometime after 110 A.D. after the original had been destroyed by fire in 80 A.D. (it was first rebuilt by Domitian after the fire, but that one also burned down). Earlier historians thought this done by Hadrian, but new research could indicate it was actually done already by Trajan, and his architect Apollodorus of Damascus, and then finished by Hadrian. The actual function of the building in ancient times is not known.

In 609 the Pantheon was consecrated to be a church by Pope Boniface IV, and it still is a church, called Sancta Maria ad Martyres (now Santa Maria dei Martiri, and informally known as Santa Maria Rotonda). Since the Renaissance it has been used as a burial place and here two of Italy's kings are buried: Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I.

Built in the late 19th century, this former parish rectory is now a private home. The structure sits behind St. Boniface Catholic Church in downtown Quincy. St. Boniface is best known as where Augustine Tolton, the first black priest in the United States, was ordained in 1886. The current St. Boniface, a stunning modernist design by John Benya that opened in 1962, is now closed.

An interesting hodgepodge after modernization. According to tax data, the three dwellings have a total of 2,495 square feet of area and the entire building has an assessed value of $383,000 C.

The first floor steps are actually a mini-wooden deck and a guy is on the roof. I suspect that in 1900 it was not built as a three plex but this is just a guess based on its current unconventionality and convoluted appearance.

On my walk to the hospital for my immunotherapy treatments; I like to take different routes and explore the city when I have the energy to do so. I came upon a newer statue and small garden area. Overlooking this Grey Nun statue, over her shoulder you can see a bit of the garden and the St. Boniface Hospital in the distance. Just thought this is a different perspective of a monument... what does the monument see and overlook?

The old picket fence and the crudeness of the "boarded up" front door caught my eye.

Most of the visible part of the first floor except for the tower is in bad shape but the tower and second floor siding look quite new along with the tower roof. Curious.

I spent some time this morning in the old part of St. Boniface, the francophone (French) part of Winnipeg. I found some interesting and rather unique buildings in areas of St B where I had not previously visited. This is one of them.

Interestingly, there is a wire between the two houses.

Nothing but a shot of one of the prettiest churches in the state in some nice light.

I like hanging out in good back lanes generally but the fire escape, 2.0 and 2.5 floor porches, brick and hippie-era cloth poster had extra appeal. And what is going on behind the gray apartment block?

It's still an imposing facade, but sadly after the fire over 50 years ago I think, it is just a facade, with a new, modern church built inside it. The front and the back wall, are all that's left, complete with scorch marks on the stone.

No AI, no copy & paste, just my camera on a tripod and thirty minutes of my time with trial and error. I was lucky that there was a tree nearby, where crows were building nests, and there was a lot of flying activity that day.

Rolling away from their away-from-home terminal, the Montreal-based crew is homeward-bound on a warm spring afternoon, hoping to make the 105-mile run back to Montréal as quick as possible. The curved trestle spanning a little creek just north of St-Boniface was the site of numerous run past back in the excursion days on the Joliette subdivision.

Now it's basically impossible to shoot anything here, except climbing onto the rock cut on the south side of the bridge, like we do on this pleasant railfanning day thirteen years ago.

Next stop for the train will be the south siding switch at St-Justin, holding the main for a meet with northbound M368.

Fulda Cathedral (Fuldaer Dom, also Sankt Salvator) is the former abbey church of Fulda Abbey and the burial place of Saint Boniface. Since 1752 it has also been the cathedral of the Diocese of Fulda, of which the Prince-Abbots of Fulda were created bishops. The abbey was dissolved in 1802 but the diocese and its cathedral have continued. The dedication is to Christ the Saviour (Latin: Salvator). The cathedral constitutes the high point of the Baroque district of Fulda, and is a symbol of the town.

Roman Catholic Boniface Church Almere NL.

Architects Jurgen Boonstra and Freerk Hoekstra of Royal HaskoningDHV - 2021

Almere was built at a time when church attendance was declining sharply. That is why it was decided to opt for ecumenical places of worship that Protestants and Catholics would make joint use of. Completely against the national trend, however, the number of Catholics in Almere has increased in recent years. This is mainly due to the rapid growth in the number of inhabitants in Almere, as well as to newcomers from countries where the Catholic faith is still widely practiced. Because of this increase, the Boniface parish needed its own church, where its own tradition can be visibly present. After years of preparation, the church is now in use. The architects opted for a classic starting point: a nave with two aisles and an apse at the end. Daylight has been chosen to enter the church from above. This gives a calming, sacred effect. That light also shines on the 72-meter-long artwork by Théodore Stravinsky that the church has purchased. That work was taken from a church in Almelo that has since disappeared. This artwork is incorporated into the top of the facade walls. The materials used for the church are often left unfinished, such as rough concrete, a laminated timber structure, wood paneling and rough masonry walls. The imposing artwork by Stravinksy enriches the art experience in Almere, so that the new church may be included in the art route.

This is one of Alberta's earliest German Catholic churches, its first stage being built between 1905 and 1908. It was completed in 1912.

The church was in regular use to the mid-70s, and is still occasionally employed for special services such as funerals and weddings. Burials are still being made in the cemetery. A statue of the church's patron saint is located above the front entrance.

St Boniface Old Church, Bonchurch, is one of the few medieval churches in England dedicated to this Saxon monk who died in 755. Originally from Devon, but later based at monastery at Nursling near Southampton, he helped spread Christianity in Germany and became Archbishop of Mainz.

The church is a tiny building with a nave and chancel of Norman origin. The chancel is essentially 13th century but some windows are late Medieval or Tudor and the studded south door may date from the 17th century. The Flemish wooden cross behind the altar is 17th century. High up on the north wall of the nave are the remains of a wall paintings that are the only surviving example of Romanesque painting on the Island. The earliest and most complete appears to show parts of two draped figures, a tower-like feature, and swags of draperies decorated with stars. It has been dated to the early 12th century. Percy Stone restored the church in 1923 an 1931. Please note that Island churches may occasionally be closed or in use for services. Many are dependent on volunteers to stay open during the day.
