Je n'ai jamais su et je ne saurai jamais où ce cycliste allait. Autour de nous, c'était un véritable désert; difficile d'imaginer où il pouvait bien se rendre.

Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys are a small, white face monkey with a black nose and muzzle. Their coat vary in colour from brown and grey to golden.

Bolivian indigenous women carry their belongings and children in a traditional, hand-woven square textile called an aguayo. This colorful cloth, made from llama, alpaca, or sheep wool, is draped over the shoulders and secured to carry items like groceries, food, clothing, and babies. The aguayo is a deeply cultural and practical item, serving as a vital accessory for daily life and a symbol of heritage.

Bolivia eta Chile artean dagoen Ollagüe Sumendia

On August 18 there was a big parade in El Alto, Bolivia. Children dressed up and walked with their relatives. It was a lot of fun to watch them go by. Nicer large.

ISO 200, 28mm, f5.6, 1/250 shot from the public bus through the window. I was focusing on the parade, but when I did the Photomatix processing I liked the stores in the background. The whole thing is li9ke a little story.

After photomatix the image was very very noisy. I used Imagenomics Noiseware blending a "portrait" and "landscape" noise reductions. Used the "landscape" version to preseve details in the stores, hats and clothing. Used the portrait version on the faces and smooth surfaces. After that a bit of Nik Pro Contrasts, Tonal Contrast, and Slight Glamour Glow on the people. Some burning on the street and walls.

The parade in El Alto celebrates the "Day of the Sea" (Dia del Mar) when Bolivians remember the loss of their coastline to Chile over 100 years ago. Bolivia and Paraguay are th eonly landlocked countries in South America.

One thing that is striking about Bolivia and many Latin American countries is that there are so many children. It is quite a sight.

ISO 200, 112mm, f5.6, 1/400. Tonemapped in Photomatix using Details Enhancer. Very strong noise reduction using Imagenomic Noiseware. Then Nik Pro Contrast, White Neutralizer. Tonal Contrast and slight Glamour Glow. In PS smart sharpen (before the Glamour Glow) and dodging and burning. Cloned out woman's left foot on the right edge.

Bolivian bleating frog (Hamptophryne boliviana) - Finca las Piedras, Madre de Dios, Peru

A Bolivian bleating frog hops across the forest floor in the Peruvian jungle not far from the Bolivian border. I don't normally photograph from directly above my subjects but in this case I thought the frog's pattern blending into the leaf made for a cool image. This frog species was fairly uncommon where I worked in Northern Peru, it was only possible to see it immediately after heavy rains. However I found them to be much more common in Southern Peru even during dry conditions.

Sitting in a valley in the Andes Mountains, La Paz is the city that touches the clouds.

Color is very much about atmosphere and emotion and the feel of a place.

A good color image is a good B&W image.

There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.

Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.
