Last night we ventured out for our weekly camera club photowalk, due to the weather being forecast for rain and thunder we decided to meet in Seaton. As we arrived it was clear the forecast was very wrong, as we had clear blue sky so a change of plan was needed and we headed to “boiler beach” along Whitsand Bay as we’d still get a chance at a sunset shot. More of that to follow, but my initial shot from the evening is an ICM (intentional camera movement) shot where I was panning with the waves which I think adds some drama, especially combined with the “Dutch Angle” horizon.

Time again for some "Ir. Wouda gemaal" pictures. This time the steam boiler house. I love the contrast between darkness and light in the building and the industrial look. Lemmer, 2012.

On the Oregon Coast, just south of Lincoln City.

Having been to this large facility mulitple times, I was heartened to find a door open to the previously inaccessible second half. And very happy to find this nifty boiler room.

BTW, this is absolutely one of my favorite post-process photos, as due to huge blown-out glare on the right side, the first version was garbage, and might have only been useful with the windows cropped-out. However, I figured out a way to completely eliminate the glare, and still retain details in the door and above wall.

I'm bloody excited to announce a new project entitled Picture of Health. I've been granted an 'Access All Areas' pass at the hospital where I work, so over the coming weeks / months I'll be giving my insiders view of a small corner of the NHS today.

A look into the cab and on to the boiler of an old steam engine. It is located in a well-known private locomotive collection that occasionally opens its doors to visitors.

D24596sc. A 1914 vintage Lancashire Boiler at the Grade II* listed Pumping Station at Westonzoyland on the Somerset Levels which was built in 1831; its purpose was to lift water from the surrounding low lying land into the River Parrett.

The original beam engine was replaced in 1861 by a steam operated land drainage machine with a centrifugal pump and this machine can still be seen today. However, its job was taken over by a much smaller diesel pump in 1951 although it is said that the steam pump was still used as late as 1960.

A museum on the site was created in 1977 and this is now a charitable trust that has also added addition steam and diesel stationary engines and pumps to form an interesting collection.

Here is a short video that I shot while I was there:
