Taken at The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary of Canapnapan, magô in Waray, is a species of tarsier endemic to the Philippines. It is found in the southeastern part of the archipelago, particularly on the islands of Bohol, Samar and Leyte. It is a member of the approximately 45-million-year-old family Tarsiidae, whose name is derived from its elongated "tarsus" or ankle bone. Formerly a member of the genus Tarsius, it is now listed as the only member of the genus Carlito, a new genus named after the conservationist Carlito Pizarras.
The Philippine tarsier measures 85 to 160 mm (3.35 to 6.30 in) in height, making it one of the smallest primates. The small size makes it difficult to spot. The mass for males is between 80–160 g (2.8–5.6 oz), usually lighter for females, somewhat heavier than other tarsiers such as the pygmy tarsier. The average adult is about the size of an adult human fist.
The Philippine tarsier's habitat is the second-growth, secondary forest, and primary forest from sea level to 700 m (2,300 ft). Its habitat also includes tropical rainforest with dense vegetation and trees that offer it protection such as tall grasses, bushes, and bamboo shoots. It prefers dense, low-level vegetation in secondary forests, with perching sites averaging 2 m above the ground
It is a shy, nocturnal animal that leads a mostly hidden life. During the day, it sleeps in dark hollows close to the ground, near tree trunks and shrubs deep in the impenetrable bushes and forests. It becomes active only at night; with its keen sight and ability to manoeuvre around trees, it is able to avoid humans.
It is arboreal, habitually clinging vertically to trees and capable of leaping from branch to branch.
The Philippine tarsier is solitary. However, populations and individuals have been found to have either monogamous or polygamous mating patterns.
For the past 45 million years, tarsiers have inhabited rainforests around the world, but now they exist on only a few islands in the Philippines, Borneo, and Indonesia. In Bohol, the Philippine tarsier was a common sight in the southern part of the island until the 1960s. Since then, the number has dropped to around 700 on the island according to the Philippine Tarsier Foundation

While Nasingin island has access to abundant fish, water needs to be ferried in from freshwater wells on larger islands. Traditional banka boats, are used for transfer of water in 20L jugs (price 20p, or $.38 USD), as well as other goods and people from the larger island of Bohol. There are no motorized vehicles on the island, water is hand delivered.

Traditional banka boats, are used for transfer of water in 20L jugs (price 20p, or $.38 USD), as well as other goods and people from the larger island of Bohol. The 20L water jugs are repacked into 500ml baggies for a more economical price point.
Net als de rest van de Filipijnen is Bohol ruim driehonderd jaar formeel onder Spaans bestuur geweest. Hierbij heeft Bohol, zeker in de begintijd, een bijzondere rol gespeeld. Hoewel Magelhaen in 1521 de eerste Europeaan was die de Filipijnen bereikte, begon de kolonisaties pas met de komst van Legaspi, 46 jaar later. Deze werd op Bohol door een paar plaatselijke datu's (opperhoofden of koningen), Datu Sikatuna en Sigala vriendelijk ontvangen. Daarbij werd een vriendschapsverbond gesloten, waarbij volgens een oud plaatselijk gebruik wijn met bloed werd vermengt, en gezamenlijk genuttigd. Dit verbond wordt nog jaarlijks herdacht met het groots opgezette Sandugo festival.
Na Legaspi werd Bohol al snel bezocht door Spaanse Jezuïeten, die diverse gemeenschappen stichten. De eerste daarvan was het plaatsje Baclayon, gesticht in 1596, vlak aan de kust. Een paar jaar later werd deze nederzetting verplaatst naar Loboc, dat, gelegen in het binnenland, beter te beschermen was tegen de aanhoudende aanvallen van de Moro's, Moslimstammen van het zuidelijk gelegen Mindanao en de Sulu eilanden.
Niet altijd was de relatie met de Spaanse overheerser even vriendelijk. In 1621 kwam de plaatselijke bevolking in opstand tegen het regime van de Jezuïeten. De aanstichter was Tamblot, een traditionele priester, die niets zag in het Katholicisme, en opriep tot een terugkeer naar de voorouderlijke godsdienst. De vlam sloeg in de pan, maar relatief snel was de opstand weer onderdrukt. Van langere duur was de opstand van Francisco Sendrijas, ruim 120 jaar later. De aanleiding was de weigering van een plaatselijke priester de broer van de leider, beter bekend als Dagohoy, een Katholieke begrafenis te geven. Gedurende bijna negentig jaar wisten de inwoners de Spaanse macht op het eiland te trotseren, en in het binnenland een feitelijke zelfstandigheid te behouden. Pas in 1829 werd deze opstand tenslotte onderdrukt. Nog steeds zijn de inwoners van Bohol trots op deze plaatselijke held, die symbool staat voor het onafhankelijke karakter van de Boholano. Een ander resultaat van deze opstand is dat er op Bohol nooit grote hacienda's, zoals bijvoorbeeld op Negros, zijn ontstaan, en het land nog voor een groot deel in handen van boeren is.
In 1898 namen de Amerikanen, na een korte oorlog, en tegen een vergoeding van 20 miljoen dollar de Filipijnen over van Spanje. Zeker in het begin van de Amerikaanse overheersing was hiertegen heftig verzet, waarbij ook op Bohol een reeks dorpen door het Amerikaanse leger in de as zijn gelegd. De Amerikanen werden op hun beurt in 1942 verdreven door het Japanse keizerlijk leger. Deze wisten zich in korte tijd zo gehaat te maken dat in 1945 de Amerikaanse troepen als bevrijders werden verwelkomd. Kort na de tweede wereldoorlog, in 1946, werden de Filipijnen een onafhankelijke republiek.

Het eiland Bohol in de Filipijnen is de laatste jaren sterk in opkomst als toeristische trekpleister, en niet ten onrechte. Het eiland combineert schitterende witte stranden met een rijk cultureel erfgoed; prachtige koraalriffen met het curieuze spookdiertje. Hier bevinden zich eeuwenoude Spaanse kerkjes en uitkijktorens, gebouwd van koraalsteen, en vaak voorzien van schitterende naïeve beschilderingen. Het eiland heeft een prachtig groen binnenland met rijstterassen en de wereldberoemde 'Chocolate Hill' een merkwaardige groep heuvels, die als een enorm grote molshopen in het midden van het eiland liggen. Het typerende karstlandschap van Bohol wordt door vele rivieren en riviertjes doorsneden, die met af toe met een idyllische waterval, hun weg naar de zee vinden. Zelfs onder de grond zijn schatten te vinden in de vorm van tientallen druipsteengrotten. Dit eiland is zeker een bezoek waard.
Bohol is een eiland in het midden van de Filipijnen, ongeveer 800 kilometer, of een uurtje vliegen ten zuiden van Manilla. Dit eiland vormt samen met een stuk of 75 kleinere eilanden die vlak voor de kust liggen de gelijknamige provincie. Met zijn oppervlakte van ongeveer 4117 vierkante kilometer is het ongeveer even groot als de provincie Gelderland. Het heeft ongeveer 1,3 miljoen inwoners, die voornamelijk van de landbouw leven. Belangrijke gewassen zijn kokosnoten, rijst, en maïs. De hoofdstad, Tagbilaran, ligt in het zuiden van het eiland, en beschikt over een pier en kleine luchthaven.

@ Bohol, Philippines. It is composed of around 1,200 cone-shaped hills. The hills are covered in grass that turns brown during the dry season.

this was taken at paragayo resort. the day we checked in for EB-BOHOL. the whole trip from ozamiz-bohol was a total mess. alot of stopovers that me and DR.MARIO were so stressed.darn..thank God still we arrived safe..
