Radcliff Camera, built 1737-1749, is an English Palladian building designed by James Gibbs. It is a typical example of Classical Era's architecture.
The building was used as a science library of Oxford and now is still used as a reading room of the Bodleian Library.
This picture shows the view of Radcliff Camera from the St. Mary Church.
La Bodleian Library és sens dubte la institució més famosa d'Oxford, a part de la Universitat com a tal, i una de les biblioteques més importants del món, tant en volum com en qualitat dels seus dipòsits.

The Bodleian Library is one of the most important in the world, both for the massive number of books it owns, but also by its history as a research place and the unique books it has, specially medieval ones.
Or at least so it is implied at the current excellent exhibition at the Weston library. Some pictures from the exhibition at adobe.ly/36PkFkf
Hertford Bridge, part of Hertford College, Oxford. It is popularly referred to as the Bridge of Sighs in reference to the bridge of that name in Venice. The building in the background is the Bodleian Library.

The ceiling of the school is a masterpiece of Perpendicular Gothic architecture. It has an elaborate system of fan vaults with 455 bosses. Each boss indicates a religious symbol, or a coast of arms, or many other things.

Possibly my favourite photo from the weekend. It took patience (lots of tourists kept getting in the way) and positioning (half of the Radcliffe Camera is covered in scaffolding).

I've always been a fan of the square format, even before I got so used to looking a Flickr thumbnails.
In my formative photographic years I admired the photographer Charlie Waite who always managed to fill the square frame so fully, usually with a minimum of subject. This one maybe has a bit of that (even if I do say so myself) and I like the way the frame is split into four separate squares, each with something different going on.

Continuing with some Oxford shots that have been hanging around for a while, some of which I've already uploaded variations of before.
This is a much photographed location by me as in Summertime readers are backlit by sunlight (on the odd occasion the Sun does actually shine in England).
From Wikipedia : "The Bodleian Library (pronounced /ˈbɒdliən, bɒdˈliːən/), the main research library of the University of Oxford, is one of the oldest libraries in Europe, and in Britain is second in size only to the British Library. Known to Oxford scholars as “Bodley” or simply “the Bod”, under the Legal Deposit Libraries Act 2003 it is one of six legal deposit libraries for works published in the United Kingdom and under Irish Law it is entitled to request a copy of each book published in the Republic of Ireland. Though University members may borrow some books from dependent libraries (such as the Radcliffe Science Library), the Bodleian operates principally as a reference library and in general documents may not be removed from the reading rooms."
There is some darkness here and the sign says "SILENCE PLEASE". So, "Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel comes to mind for 'Sight and Sound' :-)

The Librarys construction and maintenance was funded from the estate of John Radcliffe, the royal physician.
