The Model 18-36 – A Bridge from the Compact to Humongous
When the 20-35 was discontinued in 1915-1916, the next intermediary size between the more compact 8-16 and 12-25 was the Model 18-36. Its stature and styling were closer to the 25-50 than the earlier 20-35, and it debuted the year where Avery began offering renewable/replaceable sleeves in its engines.
The tractor weighed just over 9,000 lbs, had a four-cylinder engine with a 5.5 inch bore and a 6 inch stroke. The 18-36 is an exceedingly rare model for Avery and any surviving example provides a most uncommon opportunity for a collector. They are large enough to use and work, yet sensible enough size-wise to be able to be hauled fairly easily.
