Bloomed photos on Flickr

I’m planning to creatively challenge myself this year by composing a haiku for images I post. I’m sure I’ll miss a few, but my intent is to slow down and even more thoroughly enjoy and experience this whole process, and hopefully realize some improvement.

This first effort certainly appears to have been written by a mechanical engineer (that’s me) but maybe I’ll get better with time!

I captured this camellia bloom in my Seattle front yard just last week despite some temps well below freezing this December…pretty tough plant.

This year they are 7 on this group, some smaller by the sidewalk and others that yet to bloom, those are the small ones that bloom the longest.

Nerium oleander is a shrub or small tree in the dogbane family Apocynaceae, toxic in all its parts. It is the only species currently classified in the genus Nerium. It is most commonly known as nerium or oleander, from its superficial resemblance to the unrelated olive Olea. It is so widely cultivated that no precise region of origin has been identified, though southwest Asia has been suggested. Oleander is one of the most poisonous commonly grown garden plants. Oleander grows to 2–6 m tall, with erect stems that splay outward as they mature; first-year stems have a glaucous bloom, while mature stems have a grayish bark. Back in the day photography close-ups of nature was very appealing to me and while my interests have evolved into different subjects and styles I always find my way back to my photo roots of macro. Recently Reid Northrup a fellow Flickr-ite has posted the most dreamy flower photos he uses LensBaby Soft Optic II and after looking into their line of lenses I picked up their Velvet 85 thanks to B&H Photo and their daily deals. Although the results are different between the two lenses I’m happy with my choice and how it fits in to my photography style.
