This was the scene while we waited for the blood moon to appear and the sky to darken.
This is also my first decent photo from the new camera. I went with a canon because I got a great deal, and I have canon equipment already.
"Wanna come in? the water is quite warm tonight under this blood moon."

The Blood Moon is a no frills starfighter with no explosives, energy weapons, or terribly robust shields. Its job is punching new ventilation shafts through enemy ships with its two powerful cannons, and letting the vacuum of space do the dirty work. It relies on its speed to get away as it has little defense against return fire.
I built this over the course of about 5 weeks. The ideas that led to it started off long before that, though, as I was toying with an idea for a drone fighter. I wanted to revisit the color scheme that I used in my cyberpunk hopper car. Dark red as the main color earned it the working title Blood Moon. I got stuck on that for awhile, then started over with a very different design in a different color scheme, now featuring a cockpit. After going away on vacation for a bit, I returned and started over again, returning to the original color scheme, and something a bit closer to the original concept than the direction I'd started to veer off into with the first restart.
On top of my original sketch, I took some inspiration from present day lifting body aircraft. With the exception of the tail, the side profile has a deliberate airfoil shape.
The thing that finally got me going somewhere, after spinning my wheels for a while, was the #69754 tile shooter, which I used in the engines of my previous spacecraft, the Astral Vortex.
The cockpit came next. I really wanted to put the nose way out in front on this one, because I've done a lot of hiding it between cannons or Vic Viper prongs on past builds, which has let me focus less on the shaping. I originally wanted to brick-build a sleeker version of the classic 2507 windscreen in trans neon green. I didn't have those hinged wing parts that make the side in the right color, so I temporarily used black, and by the time I got the parts in my intended color it had evolved and I liked the black better.
Another of my frequent habits, showing up in nearly every spacecraft I've built since the Ugly Duckling, is using a lot of white brick in my hulls. I like that look, and I certainly don't plan to abandon it, but this time around I decided to use none at all for the sake of trying something different. The goal was to achieve a darker grittier look, while still keeping the high contrast that comes with spanning a wide range of shades.
This is one of my more complicated builds in terms of weird out-of-system geometry. There are few 90 degree angles to be found, anywhere. They only visible part with studs not at some weird out of system angle from the frame is the small recessed panel in front of the intake below the black pipe.
---
I underestimated the length of the build while it was still in progress, and the display stand mount wound up being significantly in front of the center of gravity. It was a bit late to change that by the time I was far along enough to know where the true center of gravity would be. It's locked to the frame, so it's not going to fall off no matter where it's attached. But the base still needs to be kind of centered below the center of gravity, which put the neck close to the front. I decided to take advantage of this by mirroring the delta shape of the wings in the display stand base.
I was disappointed with the weather yesterday afternoon as the cloud and some rain came in late, with the cloud covering the expected moon rise. It was only later at night that I could actually see the moon not long before the lunar eclipse was over. But I managed to get this blood moon shot.

Supermoon eclipse.
Having had another unproductive weekend and with the impending closure of Ipernity I have decided to randomly post some of my favourite photos that I put on Ipernity but never got around to posting on Flickr, in this case because there were a lot of very similar images around at the time.
This was well worth getting up in the middle of the night to see.
As children we called these little guys "Bloodsuckers" but they are Red-headed Cardinal beetle, Pyrochroa serraticornis . Harmless unless you're another insect.
Total lunar eclipse - September 7th - did not provide the most ideal conditions for observation. There was too much cloud cover.
An image that reminded of the days back in Summer last year and early this year when many parts of Australia were blanketed with haze for many days due to bushfires that sadly affected the lives of thousands of Aussies (some permanently) as well as hundreds of thousands of wildlife (lost and displaced). For many the road to recovery is still very long...Good news is the Covid restrictions are starting to ease which means travel to some places within each state will soon be allowed. Hopefully it would help boost local tourism and somehow help the economy of those areas that are still recovering from the aftermath of the 'Black Summer'.
I was amazed the sky cleared enough to get a shot of it. Its done nothing but rain here since last friday. But, clear it did. This was taken around 10:15 Sunday Night.

I spent the better part of an evening catching the recent lunar eclipse. Unfortunately, I really don't have the lens for those types of shots, but I kept my little stash of moon shots thinking they may come in handy.
This is just another fun in Photoshop shot, placing the blood moon into an older shot of a scene taken in BIrds Hill Park.
30 miles from the terminus of the Appalachian trail, (at Springer Mountain) Blood Mountain is the second highest peak in GA, and the highest in GA on the Appalachian trail at 4,459 ft.
There were some dead Ferns in my way as I set up for this and I foolishly tried breaking them with bare hands, the fibres are like razors and I bled, everywhere! Thank God for my "Emergency Plasters" which I keep in my wallet! An untidy shot of Blea Hill Beck waterfall but it gives a sense of the place. It's very tight and a wide lens is important but I do love the flow through all those rocks. I see very few shots from this location and almost feel the place is my secret!
Playing with my food again today. I am so excited to see Spring color and flowers that I decided to make my own this morning. Blood oranges have to be some of the most beautiful fruits, the natural variation of color is art itself. I noticed my oranges were drying out and was going to brush some water on them to freshen them up but liked the idea that it looked like I was painting the picture of the sunflower. My hands are in rough shape today, I've been doing Spring cleaning and chores and need to remember to wear my gloves.
Have a wonderful day and remember it's okay to play, it's what makes life worth living.
