This portrait was shot using 2 SB-800's. The main light was a small softbox with the SB-800 set at about 1/4 power and the blue background light was another 800 with of course a blue gel pointed up at the ceiling.

Nikon D810 Photos Pro Women's Surfing Van's US Open Sports Photography Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD !
I shot in DX mode which crops away the extra pixels and takes me 1.5X closer while allowing for up to 7 FPS with the Nikon D810's Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip using the 8 AA battery option! 8 Duracels took me through around 3,000 shots no problem--maybe more! I was shooting at the equivalent of 900mm with the 1.5x crop factor! Pretty close! Had I gone with the Nikon D4s, I would have gotten 12 fps, but no DX crop factor, as the sensor has only around 14mp, compared to the d810's 36 megapixels! Sure the larger pixel size on the Nikon D4s full frame sensor comes in handy indoors or at night, but in the bright sun, there's more than enough light for the smaller pixels in crop mode! Sure we lose some pixels from the outer edges when shooting in DX crop mode, but most of those pixels would be cropped away in lightroom anyway. And the smaller files make the memory cards last longer, while also upping the FPS to 7 shots per second! Not quite 12 FPS, but still awesome and enough I felt!
What a beautiful way to test the Nikon D810 and Tamron 150-600mm zoom lens for sports photography!

April 19, 2003: CogDogBlog 1.0 launched on maricopa server jade.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/alan using MovableType
April 26, 2005 Migrated blog to WordPress (1.5) leaving old one as archive and moving new one to jade.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/cdb - Content was exported from MovableType (comments were not preserved) and imported into the new WordPress site. It sat for a while with a basic Kubrick Theme with a dog header ;-) The archive site (/alan) was re-templated to remove comments and to provide a redirect to the new WP version of same entry.
Jul 20, 2005 - with idea from Steve Dembo, registered cogdogblog.com domain, for now, forwarding to the maricopa server
Nov 11, 2005 - recast design using the current style, modified from the Headspace theme
Jan 5, 2006 - moved both blog and old archive from Maricopa server to one donated by Audree at audsplace.com. I had tons of image references and links to the old jade.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu site, and while I could set up redirects on the jade server, to make it cleaner, I did a database dump, search and replaced the old URLs with the current, and rebuilt the database.
Dec 14, 2006 Too much traffic killed the favor, moved everything again to current host at DreamHost
