Very often, the snake scares, it represents cruelty and evil.
Do you know the fable "The Man and the Snake"? In this fable, Jean de La Fontaine describes a snake being punished to death by a man without any judgment. Then begins a monologue of the snake, in which he will try to demonstrate the ingratitude of Man. An ox, a cow and a tree are also present to give their opinion.
For us, this story reveals an interesting observation. Nature gives to Man. The cow and the ox help him to carry out the hard tasks of the everyday life. The tree warms him up, gives him shelter. However, man will have no qualms about abandoning them, killing them when he no longer has any use for them.
It is fascinating to see that Jean De la Fontaine chooses here the snake, this animal so despised by the biblical thought, which defines it as the animal which released the sin by the temptation. Who really embodies evil and cruelty?
