Taken with a long exposure at night, snowflakes are illuminated by a lamppost during a strong winter storm. In addition to snowing heavily throughout the night, there were very strong winds, which resulted in the illuminated snowflakes looking like a chaotic whirlwind of sparks.

Winter arrived in very unusual way to where I live. A blizzard, look at that! Well, a baby one, only one day of snowing and temperatures really not that low. But lovely white darkness, and a lot of snow. Haven't seen that in maybe ten years. Did I go outside to shoot despite of official warning and recommendations to stay home? Of course! Very, very, very cool photoshoot...
On this day we were surprised by a snow storm on the way. The view was so bad that we had to drive very slowly by car. There was not much of the landscape left. Trees at a great distance were only dimly visible. From the storm, the fine snow particles were whirled up from the field.
Their is definitely an optical illusion here, due to the full zoom. Our street runs between the car mound on the left and the other two mounds. The zoom creates an interesting depth perception.
