A bit of luck the otter surfaced and looked right down the lens before its next dive. Taken at Figgate Pond Edinburgh
It's a bit weird this one but got me thinking about how you enter and exit under a bridge. A way in and a way out. Normally, one would not be able to see both the entrance and exit at the same time.
This is an eight shot portaint panorama stitched in Lightroom. The angle of view is about 200 degrees. The river, as well as the path and railing run in a straight line. My back is pressed hard against the rear of the arch.
Shot hand held, manual focus with the Irix 15mm. This is Barming Bridge over the River Medway in Kent.
I hope you like the weirdness!
When we stand in awe, our lips do not demand speech; we know that if we spoke, we would deprave ourselves. In such moments talk is an abomination. All we want is to pause, to be still, that the moment may last. It is like listening to great music; how it reaps the yield from the fertile soil of stillness; we are swept by it without being able to appraise it. The meaning of the things we revere is overwhelming and beyond the grasp of our understanding. We possess no categories for it and would distort it if we tried to appraise it by our standard of values; it essentially surpasses our criteria.

Bit of a Marmite shot I would think.

Sometimes nature seems to reward you. I had spotted this storm on weather maps over the Gorges du Verdon and I drove two hours under the rain and lightnings just hoping to be there at the right place at the right time, and this time luck was on my side! Here is the most intense sunset that I have never seen, an amazing sky which later let place to a wonderful Milky Way! I had been searching for long a sky like this, with no success, I can't believe this finally happened to me!

Bit of an unexpected working which turned out to be Locomotive Services Christmas Jolly to Holyhead with a trainee fireman!
46100 Royal Scot , in the rain,
powers through Bangor with the 1Z49, and running with no centre light on the buffer beam, just like the good old days!
Perhaps a bit too pretty for some but a revisit to the Lune valley on Referendum Day prompted a shot from the Fairmile Road which sees a Virgin Voyager working the 11.43 London Euston - Glasgow (9S65) service, and running 27 minutes late as it happened.
Luckily the height of the Fairmile Road hides the worst excesses of the M6 motorway, and interesting too that despite being electrified the railway cuts a pretty small visual footprint in this stunning setting. As always good to see the pink and white foxgloves making an occasional stand in the rampant bracken.

The heavens opened and most folk took shelter as it didn't look to be improving Stu and myself retired to the pub, just to get out of the rain, honest...........
This shot of Wahclella Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is a bit different. It is a panorama of the waterfall consisting of four horizontal images stitched together to make a big vertical image about 33 megapixels in resolution.

until I get decent weather and a bit more colour in the trees, here is one from Autumn last year...Early morning mist being burned off by the warming sun at one of my favourite parts of this lovely loch...
Have no idea what this act was. They were bit part performers.

It's really sad to see this boy who is no older than 5-year old selling tit-bits on the pedestrian overhead bridge between Al Merjeh and Souq Sarojja in Damascus, Syria. He is selling this all by himself.

I was in a bit of a hurry and had a long drive in front of me. Near the summit of the Heritage Highway, the trees were spectacular, draped in snow and topped off with fresh hoarfrost. I continued driving, regretting that I hadn't stopped for even a single photo (part of me knowing that I would end up stopped for an hour or more).
I drove down out of the hills and then came across this creek that I have photographed in all seasons. There wasn't as much frost and snow but I just had to come away with something. Cold fingers and toes and a few photos later... and I was on my way again.
A bit later in the morning, the sun broke over the ridge and began making great shadows on the snow. I captured some black and white 35mm here but didn't finish off the roll. Soon enough I will get it processed and upload it here.
I'd like to climb this mountain someday. And I'd also like to get the shot from the Illumination saddle. Soon!
Enjoy! Your comments are appreciated.

Sometimes, it's good to stand back and get a little bit of perspective on things. It's especially useful when showing your photo audience the size and scale of a scene, such as this one I captured of a couple taking in the immensity of the red-rock formations seen along the Navajo Loop Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah. Most photographers balk at including people - either because they don't want anything human in their landscapes or because they can't get model releases from them if they decide they want to try and sell the image.
For my editorial purposes, I like including people and man-made objects in my images (sometimes) for the purpose of scale as well as to give my viewers a perspective of the scene and some kind of reference for their mind to recognize.

Quarry Rock Falls - Cleveland, OH
Now that I'm done with some other photographic and musical obligations for the year, I can start pumping out more landscape photos, yay! This is the last thing I took photos of in Ohio this fall. It was a little bit out of the way, but I sure am glad I came here. The fall colors were peaking, and playing around on this waterfall was really fun! I forgot my waders on this trip. so I just walked around in the water in my shoes and socks. There were a ton of waterfalls to climb next to and up and all over.
This is a panorama of 5 vertical images (and yes the curve of the river was shaped that way, it wasn't just from the stitching). Title borrowed from the Foo Fighters album.

Our Daily Challenge ... leading lines.
I could probably have made more use of the leading lines here by moving further away so I'm not sure if they really work in taking the eye to the flowers in this case..
Having clicked the shutter slightly too early, 37612 thunder through Water Orton 122 minutes late with 0Z30 Derby RTC to Derby RTC, having traversed the Chase Valley a couple of times.
We don't use the word cottage or bungalow to describe houses here much, but this one in the heritage rich Brisbane suburb certainly fits that general description. A fence for Friday, a door and window naturally and some old and newer style awnings. It even has a nice size back yard for the kids and a skylight in the roof.
