I'am pleased to announce the birth of six healthy little babies! Mama is very proud and very protective so I have to take these on the sly which is hard to do! They are SO tiny. I'm learning so much. I did not realize how big or pliable their little beaks are! They really are all mouth. No sounds from them yet and they just huddle together in a mass until I touched them with a flower and then those little beaks flew open.
This gives new meaning to the phrasie 'so ugly they're cute!'

Springtime signifies birth. The fallen leaves of autumn are replaced by flowering bulbs shooting up and flowers getting ready to bloom. February is a bit early for Spring, even in South Hampton Roads VA, but I'll take it!!!

This is not the mother I remember. I have no memory of my babyhood, but since both my fathers were photographers, there are a few remnants of my mother and myself. She was exquisite, young and delicious. And as I aged, and so did she, we became antagonists over so many issues, and yet our paths really were the same, both breaking the rules, both following our hearts, both warrior women in our individual ways. Thank you for wanting me, for guiding me, for aging with me. We are in our 70 years together, nobody remains, only you and me, both precious to the other.
Missy has been coming to the yard on her own the past couple of days ... this tells me that she is very close to giving birth .. this evening she came in late afternoon, had a snack and a nap and then another snack and then took off about an hour and a half ago ... a few minutes ago little Flash, Maggie and May came into the yard for a snack ... I'm sure Maggie is pregnant but unsure about May ... so nice that Flash has her sisters to hang around with while Missy gives birth to this years fawn(s) ... and life goes on ...

I am photographing the local production of BIRTH this weekend. This is one of my favorite captures from last night. If you haven't seen this play before I highly recommend that you check in your area to see if there is a local production. It is one the most empowering things I have ever been lucky enough to see and be a part of.
