...came the loud report of a 12 gauge shotgun. To call the jerk a birdbrain would be to compliment him. From the only place he could be hiding he was 30 yards/meters out of range.

my first flash animation (really just a test when I was learning how to use it).

Bad photo, but I was looking for one where the size difference was obvious.

One night, a Seagull had a dream ...

It dreamed it was walking along the beach with the lord of the birds. As scenes from it's short life flashed across the sky, it noticed there were birdprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of birdprints, and other times there was only one.

The seagull was bothered by this because it noticed that during the low moments of it's life - when it was suffering from sorrow, and when other seagulls got to the food first; when it was in the depths of despair - that's when there were only one set of birdprints. So the seagull said,

"Lord, why ... when I needed you the most, have you not been there for me?"

And the lord replied:

"Jonathon ... the times you have seen only one set of birdprints is when I was away doing other things like, oh, flying, and eating, and shagging other seagulls. And by the way ... I'm not the lord, birdbrain. My name is LORNE. So quit following me already! It looks weird."

Seemingly simple things can amaze us, but only if we take a moment to appreciate them. As my long-suffering wife and children can attest, one of my simple, guilty pleasures is watching seagulls fly. Sure, they’re dirty, disease-carrying annoyances. And they sometimes steal my kids’ hot dogs. But when you watch them in flight, you can't help but marvel at the subtle yet incredible level of control that they have over their domain.

We often marvel at the engineering magic of an airplane, but no smoke-spewing 737 can hold a candle to the way a usually-ignored birdbrain can ever so slightly curve a wingtip and change direction almost via telepathy.

The next time you're out in the back yard or sitting on the beach, I hope you'll take the time to take in the show. I think you'll be impressed.

A bird sits atop the Jan Hus Memorial, on the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí), with the starry spires of the Church of Our Lady before Týn (Kostel Matky Boží před Týnem) in the background.

This birdbrain (literally!) ran full force into my parents' glass door, killing itself. So I took a postmortem. (Turdus migratorius)
