Cow Palace, San Francisco, California - Mid 1950's
This was built in 1941 and is still used for rodeos and many other sporting and entertainment events.
This "found photo" is one of 1000's that I stumbled across at an estate sale. This is a great collection of travel photos from the 1950's and 1960's from across the globe.
... of the man
Who stilled the water
Put your hand in the hand of the man
Who calmed the sea
Take a look at yourself
And you can look at others differently
By putting your hand in the hand of the man
From Galilee, oh yeah
My momma taught me how to pray
Before I reached the age of seven
When I'm down on my knees
That's when I'm closest to heaven
Daddy lived his life by two kids and a wife
Well, you do what you must do
But he showed me enough of what it takes
To get me through, oh yeah
Put your hand in the hand of the man
Who stilled the water
Put your hand in the hand of the man
Who calmed the sea
Take a look at yourself
You can look at others differently
Putting your hand in the hand of the man
From Galilee, oh yeah
Put your hand in the hand of the man
Who stilled the water
Put your hand in the hand of the man
Who calmed the sea
Take a look at yourself
And you can look at others differently
By putting your hand in the hand of the man
From Galilee, oh yeah
Put your hand in the hand of the man
Who stilled the water
Put your hand in the hand of the man
Who calmed the sea
Take a look at yourself
And you can look at others differently
By putting your hand in the hand of the man
From Galilee, oh yeah
Put your hand in the hand of the man

Put your hand in the hand of the man

Filers of Stanton Wick provided this ex-Trent Daimler Fleetline, RCH 516F, (916) to help work the mass of Billy Graham 'Mission England' services taking people to Ashton Gate, on May 13th 1984.

During the week of Billy Graham 'Mission England' events at the Bristol City ground at Ashton Gate, several extra trains ran (in addition to hundreds of buses and coaches).
The long-closed Ashton Gate Station was temporarily reopened for the duration of the event.
One of the workings was exceptionally rare...
Bristol based hybrid set B307 - W53083 (not visible in this shot), W59550 and W53820 worked down to the station. Coupled to it was a Buxton Class 104 set, BX485 - M53432, M59186, and M53484. The Buxton set had been seen in Newport.
By November 1984, the Class 104s in set BX485 were unserviceable at Buxton.
59550 New June 20th 1959, withdrawn on October 28th 1985.
53820 New November 1957, withdrawn on July 10th 1992.
53432 New June 1957, withdrawn on July 9th 1984.
59186 New March 1958, withdrawn on December 9th 1984.
53484 New June 1957, withdrawn in December 1984.
The set number was used again for three different Class 104 cars.
This would probably have been the first (and last) ever visit of a Class 104 DMU on the line!. Please excuse the camera shake!

my mom is 3 months pregnant with me in this photo. i miss my dad most at this time of year, he was mr. christmas through and through.
Fall 12-spotted skimmers were flying at the wetlands yesterday! This species is rare in the Southeast and follows an odd pattern: appearing first in the Spring in low numbers, disappearing or appearing sporadically over the Summer (none this year), then suddenly putting on a big show in the Fall. Flying with these big skimmers were Wandering gliders, old Great blue skimmers, and one Green darner. I saw only one Blue dasher - an old blue female, and no pondhawks. A lone Blue-faced meadowhawk was hiding back near the woods. Fall wildflowers were in their full glory - they're blooming early this year.

There's just something about Southerners. We can have the crappiest public health, public education, highways, as well as self-absorbed, silly politicians (OK, some of them are great), and we will always maintain that we have it the best in the country! And as far as actually being a defeated people following the Civil War, it turns out that WE WON!

The people at Lifeway Christian built this statue of Billy Graham on their property in downtown Nashville.
The funny thing is it took me an hour to find this. I knew their building was across the street from Union Station, but I guess I never realized how much property they owned. I started on Broadway and walked the length of their property across 10th avenue when I concluded it wasn't at "gulch-level." I walked up through the TSU parking lot to McLemore Ave to Church Street, and it wasn't on Church St. either. From there, I examined Lifeway Plaza, 9th, Commerce Street, and then finally its actual location on 8th. so I got a few shots of it, and then my batteries died.
Update: The statue was removed in 2016 when Lifeway moved out of their downtown offices. It may have been relocated to their Conference Center in Asheville, NC.
Every year on June 20th my Dad would call first thing in the morning and ask "Guess what today is??" and I'd say "What day is it Daddy?" and he would exhort "Today's my favourite day! Happy Birthday Kid!" And it really must have been... He was always so thrilled over any little thing I did, any idea I shared with him, every decision I made.
He backed me up 1000%, was always thinking of my well being and the things that might benefit me. From the get go it was as tho' he was on a mission to give me the world; he was always presenting me with something new to explore. When I was 5 he enrolled me in acting classes, not with any designs on my becoming an actor, but because it was something thru' which I could learn about myself, the world, and the creative process. The same held true of the guitar lessons, the flute lessons, the dance classes, the trips to art galleries and museums. When he saw how much I loved sitting for hours painting or drawing, he poured on the art supplies; I was swimming in oil paints, watercolours, modeling clay. One year he built me an easel, another year he salvaged a pottery wheel from a shut down art school.
Every year he would buy me books that he didn't think I would choose on my own, and they were always an eye opener. Even during lean years there was always season's tickets to one of the city's best theatres... That was really important to him, for me to have that. We constantly talked about art and artists of every ilk, about the soulfulness that we humans are capable of. It was a life long conversation between the two of us, because he knew there was great reward in being artful, and in recognizing and supporting talent in others. He never told me what to be, but was always showing me what was possible, all the while being so steadfast and true, my best friend, my unwavering ally, my Dad.
I don't know if all that seems ordinary to others or not, it never seemed that way to me, he was always so much fun to have as a dad, he always seemed so special. Even in my teens when we naturally had our big differences he was my rock, my super cool jazz dad.
I wish that I had more of my wits about me when talking or writing about him, so that I could better impart to those who never met him how wonderful he was, or how deep his love ran for not just me, but for music, art, living, and everyone who strives to do something meaningful. All I can say is that my Dad will always be there, right in front of me; a beacon lighting the path in front of me for the rest of my life, so that I may continue to explore.

May 23, 2019 - Pastor Billy Graham's Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at night with the Creative Photo Academy's Night Hawks Photo Meetup Group. I was surprised to find the late Pastor's Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
What is it in the nature of man
That makes us hate and cheat
And steal and kill?
Why do people get off on bigotry
Intolerance and racial intolerance?
There's something wrong with human nature
Human Nature is a 1991 song performed by English singer and record producer Gary Clail. It is produced by Adrian Sherwood and features Lana Pellay on backing vocals. Released as the first single from his second album, Emotional Hooligan (1991), it peaked at number ten on the UK Singles Chart and number three on the UK Dance Singles Chart. It was also the theme tune to BBC 2's TV-show Snub.
It was originally intended to use a sample of a speech by Billy Graham on the track, however his representatives refused permission, so the song used portions of the speech re-recorded by Clail. However some promo 12" singles featuring the Billy Graham sample were pressed and distributed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Nature_(Gary_Clail_On-U_Sound_System_song)

Our daughter Amanda (here 14) was quite confident and comical with her new ability to drive a boat -- more so than her dad? :) She had been a regular fishing buddy with her dad since she first knew how to hold a little plastic fishing rod. Now she is all grown up.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads! May you have good memories of your children, and a wonderful weekend of relaxation and enjoyment.
“A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.” ~ Billy Graham
The world-famous preacher delivers his message to the sinners at the downtown Nashville rent-controlled housing, full of its drug-dealers and prostitutes.
Note: This concept would have been funnier if the Classic Cat was still open. How did a strip club ever get a license to operate on the same block as the public magnate school anyway?
Update: The statue was removed in 2016 when Lifeway moved out of their downtown offices. It may have been relocated to their Conference Center in Asheville, NC.
Vintage image of then-Wrestling Champion Superstar Billy Graham of the World Wide Wrestling Federation ( WWWF). Superstar was scheduled to wrestle at Madison Square Garden later in the evening and decided to venture out for a walk in Times Square to clear his head. On 42nd Street (The Deuce) he was unexpectedly mobbed by wrestling fans of all persuasions. As you can see in this image, people from every walk of life are flocking to him. An idol among the masses. RIP Superstar Graham - the heel you couldn’t hate. It’s always a thrill when it’s from Vinnie DeVille!
The remarkable election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States has been propelled as much by his exceptional skill as an orator as by any other factor.
From the silver-tongued to the tongue-tied, the sublime to the ridiculous, this programme takes a fond look at the art and history of the political speech.
Alan Yentob joins the crowds at the inauguration in Washington, and traces the awesome power of orators from Cicero onwards, via Cromwell, Lincoln, Churchill, Hitler, Martin Luther King and many others.
Among the contributors are Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Bob Geldof, Neil Kinnock, Ted Sorensen, Tony Benn, William Hague, Geoffrey Howe, Diane Abbott, Charlotte Higgins, Alastair Campbell and Germaine Greer.
What makes a good speech great? How much is content, how much is presentation? And has Obama brought eloquence back to 21st-century politics for good?

Una cultivar mediocoronata olandese di particolare pregio.
A rather recent Dutch large-cupped variety of great estetic value. Both the perfect form of the blooms and their particular colours make it an excellent modern garden plant.

i wanted to dust the photo and scan it but the frame is sealed, so had to photograph it instead.
