The Union Steamship Company of British Columbia was a pioneer firm on coastal British Columbia. It was founded in November 1889 by John Darling, a director of the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, and nine local businessmen. The company began by offering local service on Burrard Inlet near Vancouver and later expanded to servicing the entire British Columbia coast.

There was little light reading in a shipment of tomes sent to the colonies on the SS Corinthic on 7 August 1912.
Professional Papers of the Corps of Royal Engineers, an International Catalogue of Scientific Literature and the Bulletin of the Imperial Institute are just a few of the learned publications dispatched from London to various government offices in Wellington. There were six mail boxes full of books and records in total.
