Date of invasion: January 2016 (24 till 31 January, first seen on Flickr on 29/01/2016 by Tofz4u)

NOTE Thanks to Denis, Laurent and Virginie who were so kind to give some directions to this one and lots of other space invader in Clermont-Ferrand. :-)

THE INVASION OF CLERMONT-FERRAND

The first (two?) invasion wave(s) of the center of Clermont-Ferrand occured in the year 2000 and consisted 8 space invaders, 4 of them are still there (including 1 re-activation) and flashable.

In January 2016 Clermont-Ferrand was invaded again, the 3rd invasion wave took place:

"At the occasion of the screening of the very last version of the movie Art4Sspace at the Interntional Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, I have added 31 new creations to the city of the center of France. Among various themes, they refer to movies and cinema but also to what Clermont Ferrand is famous for : its gothic cathedrale, its volcanos, its Michelin factories and its Serge Gainsbourg street" (Invader)

On July 25th, 2013, California Northern 112 was sent from Davis to Napa Junction. There, CFNR 112 would receive a new paint job (G&W colors) and a new number. It was the last Green & Cream to be seen on the West Valley Subdivision. Here CFNR 112 leaves Davis on the UP Martinez Subdivision.

Had the cybershot with me in the car when I was picking up one of my son's friends when I noticed the backyard sheds of the friend's neighbors. Saturday, September 2, 2006 marks a the re-birth of this in-state rivalry to be played in Morgantown, WV (WVU dropped to #3 this year in the rankings of party schools).

It seems that Marshall and Huntington have always had a chip on the shoulder when it comes to attention...I am in a strange category of being a die-hard WVU fan even though I graduated form Marshall...although I always cheer for Marshall...except when playing West Virginia.

This rivalry has divided many a house in these parts and tomorrow's game will be like Marshall's National Championship if they pull the upset. WVU comes in highly ranked with realistic aspirations of an undefeated season...just don't overlook MU...it means more to Marshall than WVU and those games can be scarry.

Best of Luck to both.

Industrial surveys repeatedly rank the Sinclair dinosaur as one of the most potent symbols of American business. There is almost no confusion between Sinclair's Dino and other corporate trademarks. Children as well as adults are fascinated with the dinosaurs, and the correlation with Sinclair begins at an early age. Few trademarks can equal Dino's unique appeal.

In 1930, Sinclair's advertising writers noted that Wellsville refinery lubricants -- the best in the trade -- were derived from Pennsylvania grade crudes laid down more than 270 million years earlier. These oils were mellowing in the ground during the Mesozoic era when dinosaurs populated the earth. The obvious sales message was: the oldest crudes make the best oils. But how to dramatize this? A series of advertisements were prepared featuring a dozen of the strange dinosaurs, from hideous-fanged tyrannosaurus rex and three-horned triceratops, to the unaggressive, vegetarian apatosaurus (formerly mis-identified as brontosaurus), a 40-ton lizard with neck and tail each 30 feet long.

The campaign -- confined entirely to the Wellsville lubricants sold by Sinclair -- was a great success. The curiosity value of it was tremendous. But there was a significant and unexpected windfall. One of the dinosaurs generated remarkable appeal, in fact, it was a real glamour boy: peaceful but massive apatosaurus. The public equated him with power, endurance and stamina, the prime qualities of Sinclair products. Without any particular promotion, the public accepted the apatosaurus affectionately as Sinclair's "Dino."

He's been Dino ever since.

(from the Sinclair website, but edited for clarity. They even had incomplete sentences.)

It sure brings back fond memories.

One of the "Ice Road Truckers" that aired a week or so back had the young guy, Austin, hauling a log cabin out of Fairbanks and it showed him hitting this sign. I'm guessing that the "Steese Expy" is bent due to him!
