These very rare for Georgia spinylegs are still flying at their eastern-most location into the Southeast - near Rome, Georgia. Two-striped forceptails still flying as well. See them while you can! Lots of pennants still on the wing there. We also saw a rather late & BIG Dragonhunter on the way home - I'll post later.

Took another drive 2 counties west to photograph the colorful Flag-tailed spinylegs (Dromogomphus spoliatus) - and saw the most ever. The big lake had been mowed so they were pretty skittish, but had more posing in the small lake. River cruisers patrolling but would not perch. Hot day - perfect weather! Floyd County in NW Georgia near the Alabama line 7-23-20
I can't do 12 Days without including these very cool Spinylegs whose western range just edges into west GA. Though I once found a female looking at me in the wetlands here locally in Cherokee County - which was VERY strange. If you look at their range map on Odonata Central, that female is the deepest into the Southeast that this species has ever been reported. This one shot @ Arrowhead WMA in Floyd Co. GA - this July
