Church of the Nativity - Bethlehem - Palestinian territories.
Grotto believed to be as the birthplace of Jesus.
The bell tower of the Packer Memorial Church located at Lehigh University which is located in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. As previously stated in a prior post the church was erected in mid-Victorian times 1885 to be specific. The tower part of the Gothic structure a gift of Mary Parker as a tribute to her parents Asa and Sarah Packer was designed by Philadelphia architect Addison Hutton when the school was still primarily an Episcopalian school. Still an active house of worship however while there are Episcopalian services still held, there are service from other denominations held as well. The lighting at night exudes a mistic glow I was able as my damsel and I approached the structure from the back. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras @bhphoto @bheventspace @lehighu @adorama #excellent_america @pennsylvaniascenic @pennsylvaniaisbeautiful @scenicpennsylvania @tiffencompany @adorama @kehcamera @tamracphoto #tamractales #omsystem #omd #microfourthirds #micro43
Lehigh University is located in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. The beautifully lit structure was in fact the Packer Memorial Church which is located on lower part the university’s main Asa Packer campus. Built in mid-Victorian times 1885 to be specific, a Gothic structure a gift of Mary Parker as a tribute to her parents Asa and Sarah Packer was designed by Philadelphia architect Addison Hutton who designs had already graced other edifices on the Lehigh University campus when the school was still primarily an Episcopalian school. Today while there are Episcopalian services still held, there are service from other denominations held as well. The lighting at night exudes an almost mythical glow I was able to capture while my damsel patiently waited. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras @bhphoto @bheventspace @lehighu @adorama #excellent_america @pennsylvaniascenic @pennsylvaniaisbeautiful @scenicpennsylvania @tiffencompany @adorama @kehcamera @tamracphoto #tamractales #omsystem
I spent a fun day in Bethlehem, PA Saturday and caught a shot of these "Santas!" I wish I would have seen them before they walked away so I could have gotten a better picture! They were having a great time!!!

An overview of Lehigh Valley’s Bethlehem Engine Terminal reveals a variety of power in various states of readiness. As an SW1 leaves the turntable and heads out to work, two RS-11’s are on one of the turntable tracks, and the cab of an RS-3 can be seen in the servicing area. Farther out on the servicing tracks, a set of C420’s is being reconfigured, while a Reading/B&O power set is on the ready track. This power came in on train NE-84, and will take NE-87 to Potomac Yard after it arrives in the Lehigh Valley.
A Bethlehem Steel-bound Conrail ore train crosses the Lehigh River in Bethlehem, PA. The train is coming from the former Jersey Central main line, and is entering the former Reading North Penn Branch. The diverging track is a connection to the former Lehigh Valley main line. The LV connection is still in service, while the switch and the North Penn Branch are long gone.
Lehigh Valley paint is still present a year after the Conrail startup, although most of the units have been "patched". The next post shows a similar view 2 years later.

South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania has undergone quite a bit of change since the late 1970’s, and this image captures the beginning of the change. The Bethlehem Steel complex, which dominated the South Bethlehem skyline for well over a century, is still running, but the glut of cheap foreign steel has taken its toll on production totals. The mainline of the Lehigh Valley Railroad has been slowly deteriorating due to the deferred maintenance policies of the postwar era. Newly-formed Conrail is now undertaking the task of rebuilding the line, and upgrading it as part of what will become the main New York – Harrisburg corridor. A pair of Alcos of Lehigh and Hudson River and Lehigh Valley heritage lead a local on a siding to bypass the construction work. Within a few years, the Alco’s will also be gone. The 2072 was the only of Conrail’s C420’sto receive Conrail blue paint. Done by the Bethlehem shop forces the paint was applied with a roller. I never heard the actual story, but local rumors suggest that CR management was not pleased with the misappropriation of paint for this project.
As my west coast damsel and I made our way on the Lehigh Valley Rail track that was adjacent to the Hill to Hill Bridge during our marvelous weekend in Bethlehem, we came upon the railroad bridge for that same line and this reflection on the rail caught my eye. This image take with my fisheye lens from a very low perspective is the result.
An eastbound Conrail manifest rolls past the one-time site of the Lehigh Valley’s Calypso Yard in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
During our wonderful weekend in Pennsylvania, my west coast damsel and I ventured on to Sand Island on the Lehigh River which dissects the town of Bethlehem, where she and I explored the island as I continued snapping away, we got up to the railway which crossed the Lehigh River and I saw the lighting on the Hill to Hill Bridge, the reflections upon the water and sort of climbed down off the tracks on to the trestle to get the perspective in this image. The 171 foot Hill to Hill Bridge that consists of a metal 8 panel rivet-connected Hudson through truss fixed and a solid approach made of concrete closed spandrel deck which is what captured in this image. It was built in 1924 by Rodgers and Haggerty of New York, designed by Clarence W. Hudson (thus the Hudson through truss) and is actually Pennsylvania Route 378.
In San Francisco with my west coast damsel a few weekends back on a photo walk with flickr’s San Francisco photo group celebrating flickr’s 20th anniversary doing a photo walk, we spent part of the weekend capturing images of the magnificent Goldengate Bridge both days, but this image is not of the Goldengate bridge, but rather it is the complex of Bethlehem Steel where the steel the forms the Goldengate Bridge was forged in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. Much of the steel of the famous New York City Landmarks, the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building, bridges like the George Washington and of course the Goldengate were forged in the massive furnaces of Bethlehem Steel. The campus was enormous, these are vestiges of what remains and the enormous stacks and furnaces have been landmarked, preserved and the area turned into a multipurpose venue. Many things have been torn down at the rebuild continues, the corporate office building which was standing when I took this image was imploded, but there are these wonderful structures that remain that make an interesting photographic subject of what was. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @visitbethlehem @steelstacks_pa #omd #olympus #microfourthirds #micro43 #micro43photography #lehighvalleypa @lehighvalleypa @visit_pa
The spot in the crypt of The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem where, supposedly, Jesus was born. There was an extremely long queue of devoted Christians wanting to venerate here but, as a very small non religious party, we were allowed in the exit to take quick photos and straight out again. ;-)

Preserved smelting stacks from the old Bethlehem Steel Corporation, that operated from 1899 to 2013. In it's heyday, Bethlehem Steel was the largest steel manufacturer in the world and was a key factor in our victory World War 2.
The rusted furnace stacks of the furnaces of the former Bethlehem Steel Plant in Bethlehem Pennsylvania that are part of a 10-acre campus encompasses what once were the main furnaces of the second largest steel producer in the United States at one time. A grass roots efforts has kept these historic and iconic stacks intact, a historic monument to a company that invented the I-beam, supplied much of the steel early in the Twentieth Century the skyscrapers of New York City and built over 1,100 warships for both World Wars. While some of the property including Bethlehem Steet Headquarters are the amazing furnaces still remain they have built an entertainment venue amongst other uses to maintain the history of one of the industrial revolutions most prolific companies. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @visitpennsylvania @visitbethlehem @steelstacks_pa #omd #microfourthirds #micro43 #micro43photography #olympus
