Course: Absolute Drawing Masterclass at Highgate Community Centre
Artist: Ismail McKenzie (18)
Medium: Pencil
This AQA accredited course was held at Highgate Community Centre. Students had the opportunity to draw a live model using different media from pencil & charcoal to ink and clay sculptures. This course enabled students to develop their skills in different techniques used for drawing a landscape in open space and drawing objects including learning about tone, shade, shadowing and volume.
Street Fashion and Customising Clothes at Central Foundation Girls School
Students were able to make clothes that are totally original as well as environmentally friendly. Working with a range of items from trainers to jeans, they learned to customise them in loads of different ways — from stencilling to sewing to spray painting. The course involved gallery and studio visits to gain inspiration and an insight into how artists and designers work.
Art and Design at Waltham Forest College

The course offerd an exciting opportunity to build on existing skills and possibly rethink the approach to drawing. A creative and experimental approach was encouraged using non-traditional as well as conventional materials. The week incorporated drawing from observation and the imagination as well as exploring drawing in printmaking, 3D and design.

Students were able to come along and learn how to draw portraits. This was a great course for the students to express their creativity and learn the basics in drawing.

Students had the opportunity to illustrate some of the best known stories from childhood. They created unique characters and brought them to life with expression and movement. The tutor taught students how to translate text into image and draw intriguing compositions. Work was exhibited at the Swiss Cottage Gallery and was AQA accredited.

Students used mixed media and acrylic paint to go on an artistic journey. They listened to music and explored how to interpret this onto canvas to create their own original masterpiece.

Students learned about creative technologies in the 21st century to see how to be a film maker, director, content developer, digital imaging guru and spatial mapper.
They were able to choose from a range of mini projects to build a portfolio in the online world to make technology work for them.
They were also able to get an AQA qualification and work with industry specialists at the Queens Park New Media Centre.

Students worked with an experienced art tutor to bring their ideas to life and learned to construct a story with images and very few words, map out ideas, create original characters and construct unusual viewpoints. They also discovered how thumbnail drawings can be developed into a graphic novel.
