Benefit Street is on the edge of College Hill overlooking Providence and has some of the oldest houses in the City. It's a classy street with a wonderful atmosphere and in the fog one can almost imagine being back in colonial times.

The Crowned Lapwing prefers dry, open habitats, either with or without scattered trees. It has benefited from the habitat impacts of both affluent and poor communities; golf courses, sports fields and airports, on one hand, and overgrazing on the other. In some areas, the presence of Crowned Plovers is an indicator of mismanagement of ranchlands. In South Africa, Crowned Plovers move locally in response to changing conditions. Crowned Plovers, like many of the wader species breeding in South Africa, have a long breeding season, often starting in August and ending in May. In addition, a pair may have more than one successful breeding attempt. If nests or chicks are lost, further attempts to breed may occur. They lay two eggs in a scrape in the sand, lined with vegetation or small pebbles. The eggs take about a month to hatch and the chicks between four and five weeks to fledge.

What a splendid day for Pep and I! The benefit was a huge success. Pep was the star, made lots of new friends, saw old friends and family. After 4 hours Pep and I were pretty worn out. But we had a blast. Photo credit by a dear friend.
Salmon farming is a hot topic right now. Some say environmental disaster, others say a boost to fragile communities in the countryside. I'm not sure where I stand on it but this raven in Bíldudalur sure benefits from it.

We're putting Wyoming's wild horses on the map.
You've heard all the news: roundups, removals, helicopters, holding corrals. It's been a tough couple of years. We have not forgotten the horses taken from their homes, but there are still mustangs living free on public land, and we cannot afford to let them go unseen.
We know from experience ... horses in unvisited places tend to vanish ... so we are working to design and publish a map. Proceeds from this event will help us create a user-friendly guide to the mustang herds of Wyoming.
We say, "Love them or lose them!"

A lichen that is common and widespread in the British Isles. It will grow on rocks and walls as well as on tree bark.
It is tolerant of pollution and benefits from the nutrients in bird droppings, hence it grows happily on tiled roofs below bird perches.
This specimen was found growing on some felled beech in Gloucestershire recently.

Tribute To The Met Gala SL
I was inspired by all the amazing designs from the Met Gala. The strange thing for me it was not the celebs that grabbed my attention. It was actual gowns created by some amazing Chinese designers. The one in particular I haven't been in love with anything or anyone since my husband 30 years ago. God rest his soul. I will not reveal here as I am going to get it made if it's the last thing I do.
The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fund raising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institutes annual fashion exhibit. Each year's event celebrates the theme of that year's Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night since guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit. Each year the event also has honorary celebrity event day chairpersons.

To celebrate the release of the new book "Street Art New York" and to benefit the programs of Free Arts NYC, original artworks by a stellar array of today's Street Artists from New York and beyond will be featured in a silent auction to take place on April 24, 2010, from 7 pm to 9:30 pm at Factory Fresh Gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
The Benefit and the Artists
The Benefit, to be held at one of New York's epicenters for the thriving new Street Art scene, Factory Fresh Gallery, will feature an incredibly strong selection of today's Street Artists joining together for one night as a community to benefit NYC kids from disadvantaged backgrounds as the numbers of poor and low-income children in New York continues to rise. Representing a renaissance in modern urban art at the dawn of a new decade, this will very likely be the largest collection of 2010's street artists in one location.
