Formed when the Colorado River looped around an impassable sandstone escarpment, Horseshoe Bend is a unique American icon and one of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area's popular attractions. Shot at the viewing deck when the late afternoon Sun colored the red canyon walls even more vivid. Did not have luxury to stay longer to shoot the sunset. Will definitely come back.

Another one from our trip to the Palouse.
I am still having issues with Flickr. It's very slow and I keep getting bad pandas. For those of you who don't know, I found it interesting that the bad panda image came from someone's post five years ago, and it now has almost 633,000 views because it was used by Flickr. Here it is: www.flickr.com/photos/toyokazu/8644384737/

Last stop on my long Fall 2022 road trip was the pass south through Yellowstone and the Grand Teton. Even though it was mid-morning, I still made the obligatory stop at Oxbow Bend. I'd already been astounded at the low water level of Jackson Lake. I asked at the Coulter Bay Visitor Center and the ranger said something about water being allocated to farming. The low level of the meandering Snake River was still a surprise. On the cool side, check the water fowl there on the exposed bank.
Horseshoe Bend is the intimate Grand Canyon experience. It overlooks one of the most spectacular views on the Colorado River. The overlook is 4,200 feet (1,300 m) above sea level, and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet (980 m) above sea level, making it a 1,000-foot (300 m) drop. Went there four times at sunrise, sunset, cloudy day and sunshine day, the picture was taken in a cloudy day. The light was soft, not so strong, loving the soft sun’s ray illuminating canyon’s twisting sandstone cliffs. I posted photos before, this photo was not including the sky, just the soft light on the cliff rocks and river…
Explore a meandering, horseshoe-shaped section of the Colorado River known as Horseshoe Bend, must join tour to visit those areas. “Horseshoe bend and slot canyon tour” at sunset time, this section of horseshoe bend is the private area, getting there were like on the kind of “horse” wagon, up and down on the road, sunshine, raining, hail, sunshine... what a weather! Arrived another side of horseshoe bend, like that quiet feeling facing to spectacular desert landscape shaped by wind and water.
I couldn't resist the title - sorry. This shot is taken literally round the bend of the road from Farleigh Wallop on the way to Ellisfield. It is a favourite stop of mine and I am not surprised that when I have met others at this point they too say they have come out of the town just to sit at this point in the road and look back down the dip[ and up the other side of the valley.

Another photo from our walk through Long Timber Woods at Ivybridge at the very southern tip of Dartmoor National Park. The arch in the background is a fallen tree which landed in this odd orientation. I took another photo further upstream with that tree as the main focus but the bend of the river here looked more interesting in the end.
I love to drive in the country in Autumn--I just can't wait to see what is around the bend!!! HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A GREAT WEEK SO FAR----I AM BUSY TODAY--CATCH YOU LATER--THANKS FOR TAKING TIME TO STOP IN!
We experienced a lot of rain and cloudy weather while staying in Page, Arizona. The back country roads we wanted to travel were largely inaccessible. Thus we visited Horseshoe Bend several times because we could travel there on paved roads. The 1,000 feet deep canyon is amazing. While we did see the sun burst through storm clouds during our stay, I confess it wasn't at the time of visiting Horseshoe Bend. But the magic of Photoshop helped me get the sky I wanted!
Happy Slider Sunday!
Bighorn Lake is visible at Horseshoe Bend in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. The Matina’s boat dock is visible on the left side of the photo. Horseshoe bend is locted east of Lovell Wyoming in the Bighorn Basin. On the left the Bighorn Mountains can be seen in the distance. The red rocks belong to the Triassic Chugwater Formation and mke up the hills and cliffs just above the west side (right side of the ohoto) of the reservoir. Above the Chugwater are the Gypsum Springs, Sundance and Morrison Formations. The Cretaceous Cloverly Formation forms the top of the hill.
