A quick dash up to Belsay Lake, in Northumberland this evening. Once the rain cleared, and with very little wind ,there was a chance of some good reflections, wish I'd took some midgie spray tho'.

Belsay Hall, Northumberland.

I rather like this cottage in the grounds of Belsay Hall.

The Hall is a large externally preserved manor house. A semi derelict castle and old hall are within the estate. The gardens are extensive and beautifully developed using the quarrys from which the masons cut the stone for building.

More shots from recent visit to Belsay Hall in Northumberland. testing out aperture and tripod, to good effect! Made my partner pose for ages for these - amazed he was still smiling!

Belsay new hall, built in the Greek Revival style is structurally complete but devoid of fabrics and furnishings though paintings do remain. It is particularly interesting because the interior masonry otherwise obscured by panelling or plaster rendering is laid bare.

The clean lines of the facia stone are impressive in its simplistic and regular geometry. The stone being quarried within the grounds of the estate and these quarries now form part of the extensively rich biodiverse gardens leading to Belsay old castle. (Not shown but pictured elsewhere in my photostream).

The new hall was constructed in the early 19th century by the Middleton family and is in the care of English Heritage.

Everything looking a bit lush in the late Spring sunshine at Belsay Hall, Northumberland.

The Regency styled country house, is located at Belsay, just a few miles north of Ponteland.

One of the reasons I love this place is that the house is unfurnished and maintained in what is referred to as a condition of benign decay.

Belsay Hall is often used as a setting for art installations and exhibitions and when I visited today, there was the most amazing display of the craft of quilting.

On this latest visit the grounds and gardens were looking simply stunning, evidence of some considerable effort being put in by the English Heritage gardeners.

A close up of the Ron Mueck "wild man" sculpture as part of the Extraordinary Measures exhibition at belsay hall. Second time we have seen this and it is just as stricking and creepy! Photography wasn't allowed, but I 'accidentaly' snapped this angled shot.

Another portrait from Belsay. I got quite into the reflection shots, and was pleased with this one. As ever, my obliging boyfriend was patiently posed for this!

An early Autumn walk in the lovely Northumbrian countryside that forms part of the Belsay Hall Estate.

'The Lake' is called just that, as if no one ever bothered to give it a name. From what I could see, it looks to be a man-made feature, probably to hold fish for the nearby hall and earlier castle. The small clapper bridge carries the footpath across the Gallow Burn, the stream which feeds the lake and which continues on its way, undergoing numerous name changes along the way.

Knights Tournament at Belsay Hall, Northumberland

The Quarry Garden at Belsay Hall is very sheltered and seems, judging by some of the plants growing there, to have it's own micro-climate.

The gardeners do an amzing job and just as I was about to take this shot, low and behold, one of the team just happened to come along the path pushing his wheelbarrow – right place/right time!
