I photographed these succulent flowers growing on the end of a stalk in my sister's garden.

Lighting stuff: Side lighting from a YN560-III in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box, hand held at the left side. The strobe, in manual mode, was triggered by a Youngnuo RF-603N.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422

Illawarra Flame Tree (Brachychiton acerifolius) shows why its floral displays are renowned. Flame Trees are typically seen with no leaves when they flower so it is possible this one is a naturally occurring hybrid. One of the great joys of Australian nature is seeing one or two Flame Trees in flower poking through dense sub-tropical bush on a nearby hillside. Magnificent!

Flame Trees are common in sub-tropical Australia and the name is the title of a popular and sentimental song by well known Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes and his band Cold Chisel.

Had to reduce myself down to fairy size for this one as those wings of mine REALLY can be tricky when it comes to negotiating branches and leaves.

I think it would be great fun if once in a while we could be tiny and zap amongst the flowers.

It would certainly take communing with nature to a different level!!!

Always a good idea to take a closer look.

Brittlestem mushroom found in woods in West Sussex.

Psathyrella marcescibilis. A small, pale brittlestem without red gill edges; fruting starts in early summer. The cap is to 3cm across; conical or bell-shaped, sometimes umbonate. The surface is smooth and dull; margin striate and hung with veil remnants when young; greyish brown, drying cream or whitish with a hint of pink. Its gills are adnate, with white fringed edges; whitish, maturing purple-brown and with a similar-coloured spore print. The stipe is to 6cm long; cylindrical; whitish, with a felty texture and powdery apex. It can be found in soil and buried woody debris, widespread but uncommon.

Not sure if I'd ever seen this plant before, but the little pink, bell-shaped flowers look so delicate and pretty. Photographed along the Sarrail Falls trail, along the edge of Upper Kananaskis Lake, in the mountains, when a small group of us went to botanize the area on 8 July 2012.

Galanthus nivalis - These bell-shaped, white flowers are common Snowdrops that bloom every year in almost everyone's yard, some in gardens and others just where they want to grow. These were growing near the woods in some old Autumn leaves.

Thanks to Eiona for the name.

Spotted on the dog walk. I don't know its name.

The Williams pear is thought to date from 1765 to 1770 from the yard of an Aldermaston, England, schoolmaster named Mr. Stair or Mr. Wheeler, giving rise to the now-obscure synonyms Aldermaston pear and Stairs pear. A nurseryman named Williams later acquired the variety, and after introducing it to the rest of England, the pear became known as the Williams Pear. However, the pear's full name is Williams' Bon Chretien, or "Williams' good Christian."

"Cold words freeze people, and hot words scorch them, and bitter words make them bitter, and wrathful words make them wrathful. Kind words also produce their image on men's souls; and a beautiful image it is. They smooth, and quiet, and comfort the hearer."

Fritillaria is a genus of Eurasian, North African, and North American plants in the lily family.

There are about 100 to 130 species of bulbous plants in the family Liliaceae, native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, especially the Mediterranean, southwest Asia, and western North America. The name is derived from the Latin term for a dice-box (fritillus), and probably refers to the checkered pattern of the flowers of many species. Plants of the genus are known in English as fritillaries. Some North American species are called mission bells.

Fritillaries often have nodding, bell- or cup-shaped flowers, and the majority are spring-flowering. Certain species have flowers that emit disagreeable odors. The scent of Fritillaria imperialis has been called "rather nasty", while that of F. agrestis, known commonly as stink bells, is reminiscent of dog droppings. On the other hand, F. striata has a sweet fragrance.

The Strawberry Tree in our garden is more of a bush really. It is an evergreen bush which has clusters of small bell-shaped flowers in the autumn which grow slowly into fruit over the following 12 months. They say the fruit is edible though I prefer to leave it for the birds.

Wikipedia:

"Asimina triloba, the papaw, pawpaw, paw paw, or paw-paw, among many regional names, is a small deciduous tree native to the eastern United States and Canada, producing a large, yellowish-green to brown fruit.[1][2] It belongs to the genus Asimina in the same plant family (the Annonaceae) as the custard-apple, cherimoya, sweetsop, ylang-ylang and soursop.

The pawpaw is a patch-forming (clonal) understory tree found in well-drained, deep, fertile bottom-land and hilly upland habitat, with large, simple leaves. Pawpaw fruits are the largest edible fruit indigenous to the United States (not counting gourds, which are typically considered vegetables rather than fruit for culinary purposes, although in botany they are classified as fruit).[3]

Pawpaw fruits have a sweet, custardish flavor somewhat similar to banana, mango, and pineapple, and are commonly eaten raw, but are also used to make ice cream and baked desserts."

"And the dangled conversation

And the superficial sighs

Are the borders of our lives"

Yhis might sound somewhat sad but it certainly is not! We enjoyed or week of sunshine at Rhodos. At our daily walk to town we saw this flowering tree and I loved the dangling bells in it.
