Challenging the tide on Cofete Beach

This week I have been working on merging photos with flower backgrounds. Instead of using blends I have tried to use masks to remove or fade parts of the photos that I don't wants. I am still trying to find a suitable topic for my final submission.

5 1/2 year old female Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abeli) named "Aisha" and 7 month old female siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus) named "Selamet" live with their families in a mixed-species exhibit at the San Diego Zoo.

The two little girls, though of different species, are developing a strong bond, with orangutan, Aisha, acting as a big sister.

Thankful that I had the time this year to visit pretty West Virginia in the Fall, thankful Mrs. Krach let me get up early and let her sleep letting me explore the highlands, thankful I was able to get up an hour before sunrise to get to this spot ... and thankful to have this glorious light and view to take in.

Also very thankful for the Canon engineers that make these captures digitally even possible, thankful for those that keep the internet powered each day so we can share, and thankful for everyone else out there that does their part in making societies around the world possible. We are all in this together, and make the world around us a better place.

Today being the Day of the dead, I am remembering the woman who gave me this camassia. Her name was Maria..she had lived a hard life but was the sweetest and most generous lady I have met here...this was her gift to me for my garden...sadly she died the following year, but when I see this bloom, I fondly remember her heart and kindness.

I went along to an event at Farmer Copley's field, Pontefract, organised by Wakefield Camera Club and saw this beautiful barn owl.

Here she is being fed after flying to and from her keeper.

After the rain cleared we were blessed with the glorious early evening sunshine that gave everything a lovely warm, golden glow.

The birds (there were 3 of them; this barn owl, a European eagle owl and what I think was an eagle) were calm, cooperative and were obviously well looked after and cared for.

I tried to capture them in flight but didn't quite manage it - still not sure of the settings needed for that and I just want quick enough off the mark. Never mind, I did manage to get this beauty!
