The former giant At&T building, which stood empty for decades, at the F. Gilbert Hills State Forest in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
The building was designed and built by AT&T during the Cold War, with the walls and floors made of reinforced concrete. It was built to take a nuclear blast and keep operating.
Today it has been turned into a regional dispatch center which handles local emergency calls.

Die Welt des Geistes ist daher nicht existent, wenn sich für sich selbst bestehend gedacht wird; sie kann nur existieren in Relation zu einer Welt des Unterschieds.

I suppose I think about a lot of 'what ifs', more than the average person I would say, and I make contingency Plan Bs all the time. This is particularly useful when hiking eg carrying stuff in case of emergency (I'm not as bad as my father, his rucksack was so weighed down it's a wonder he could climb!) Once we were snowed in with a baby for over a week so after that I have always stocked up every winter, might also serve me well this year re Brexit problems. As we get older we need to think about the health problems we could face eg what if I lose my sight or the use of my legs?
But one thing I have never really thought about is the inability to open this door, which happened last week. I got up and the door wouldn't open. It was early so couldn't phone anyone. Besides the phone was behind this door, so was my computer. I couldn't phone for help nor google names of locksmiths, carpenters etc, nor access phone numbers of family and friends cos they were all behind this door.
The security lock had worn out and needed replacing. Eventually with careful turning I managed to get it open but it made me think so thanks to whoever thought up this 119 photo challenge!

Obedience
The master Bankei's talks were attended not only by Zen students but by persons of all ranks and sects. He never quoted sutras nor indulged in scholastic dissertations. Instead, his words were spoken directly from his heart to the hearts of his listeners.
His large audience angered a priest of the Nichiren sect because the adherents had left to hear about Zen. The self-centered Nichiren priest came to the temple, determined to have a debate with Bankei.
"Hey, Zen teacher!" he called out. "Wait a minute. Whoever respects you will obey what you say, but a man like myself does not respect you. Can you make me obey you?"
"Come up beside me and I will show you," said Bankei.
Proudly the priest pushed his way through the crowd to the teacher.
Bankei smiled. "Come over to my left side."
The priest obeyed.
"No," said Bankei, "we may talk better if you are on the right side. Step over here."
The priest proudly stepped over to the right.
"You see," observed Bankei, "you are obeying me and I think you are a very gentle person. Now sit down and listen."

Wie die innere Dunkelheit, in welche Schamanen dieser Höhlen in ihren Trancezuständen hinabstiegen, auch angesehen haben mag, sie muss auch in uns liegen, allnächtlich im Schlaf aufgesucht.

Walking down Amato Road one night, I passed this door which opens into Southern California Edison's downtown Palm Springs substation. Any idiot, such as myself, can read and photograph the sign posted by Edison.
Opinion: Edison does a good job with their transmission and distribution. They also have high rates because this level of service is costly. For example, if some 12,000-volt transmission line shorts out, Edison immediately dispatches a trouble car to go see what's happening. Other utilities wait for a bunch of grumpy customers to call in and report their power is out. Monitoring SCADA and having trouble people available to respond is expensive. Their service area goes from Fresno to the San Diego County line. I'm out here in the hinterlands where there are often high winds. Overall, there are few power outages.
I think part of being a participant in democracy is having a literacy in utilities. That includes having a basic understanding of how rate cases are developed and how the California Public Utilities Commission oversees utilities.

This applies to the world of difference and it is of the essence of the difference that it is so, negation and affirmation can not both be used simultaneously on the same subject.
But does not apply to the Buddhist logic of identity, because this does not necessarily mean a denial is a denial, nor an affirmation of affirmation, on the contrary, the affirmation is a negation and the negation of an affirmation.
This does not mean that the negative contains an affirmation of what a logician might conclude from this, because for the Buddhists, there is no such co-containedness nor any ambiguity, but this statement is entirely meant even straightforwardly and directly.
We can call it a logic of identity in which there are neither one nor oneness, a synthesis.
Here is an example of the correctness of this logic: When a Zen master aussteckt his hand and asks:>> Why it is called a hand? <> Try this once, my friend, it is delicious. <<
This is an example of a distinction of non-distinction.
Aber in buddhistischer Sicht ist die Welt des Nicht-Unterschieds nichts Relatives, sondern etwas Absolutes; sie ist die eine absolute Welt, die durch sich selbst existiert und keinens Relativen zu ihrer Stütze bedarf.
Wir mögen uns fragen, ob solche eine Existenz für den menschlichen Geist überhaupt fassbar ist, Nein, verstandesmäßig nicht.
Daher der paradoxe Ausdruck Unterschied des Nicht-Unterschieds und Unterscheidung der Nicht-Unterscheidung oder, es umkehrend, der Nicht-Unterschied des Unterschieds und die Nicht-Unterscheidung der Unterscheidung.
Anders ausgedrückt: wir können feststellen, dass das Leben, wie wir es leben, die Identifikation der Widersprüche und nicht die Einswerdung oder Synthese der Gegensätze ist.
Rot ist rot und nicht-rot, die Hand ist die Hand und nicht die Hand.
Wenn wir sagen, dass es nicht ist, so ist das eine Verneinung.

Das heißt nicht, dass die Verneinung eine Bejahung enthält, was ein Logiker daraus schließen könnte, denn für die Buddhisten gibt es kein derartiges Mitenthaltensein, noch irgendeine Mehrdeutigkeit, sondern diese Feststellung ist ganz und gar geradehin und direkt gemeint.
Wir können das eine Logik der Identität nennen, bei der es sich weder um eine Einswerdung noch eine Synthese handelt.
